We have NINE trays of tomatoes that are sprouting πŸ˜πŸŒ±πŸ… That's over 1,000 seedlings! If you can't tell they are my favorite to grow and our most sold item.

Broccoli and Cabbage are looking fantastic πŸ₯¦πŸ₯¬

Peppers have tripled in size in just two weeks from them sprouting πŸŒΆοΈπŸ«‘

The oregano that made it through the snow in one of the garden beds is now thriving in the germination station 🍝

Sweet Potatoes are starting to form slips 🍠

Henry's cucumbers have germinated πŸ₯’

Marigolds from the seeds that I saved are popping up like crazy 🏡️

There's more but I'm saving it for another day 😊

Happy growing season!!

Happy Mail continues to arrive for the market garden. Yesterday it was exhaust fans and plastic!

Also, a little plant update. The first picture shows the difference just 3 days make for the pepper seedlings.

Then a picture of our brassicas that are popping up like crazy and some of our perennials - Blue Fescue, Echinacea and Salvia. Which will be great for attracting pollinators and making a couple of low maintenance beds in hard to mow corners of the yard.

Another beautiful day to work in the germination station!

Today is tomato starting day! πŸ… We will be growing mostly heirloom tomatoes, Brandywine and Oxheart, with the exception of our favorite market tomato, the Mountain Fresh tomato.

The first round of tomatoes go into the greenhouse at the end of March where they are under cover to protect from hail, wind and heavy rain. Thanks to the drop curtain sides the plants are accessible for pollinators to do their job. This makes for flavorful early tomatoes that are grown locally rather than trucked in from the southern states. This also allows us to extend our growing season around four weeks earlier in the spring and an extra four weeks in the fall 😊

In early May we will plant another round of tomatoes in the field for harvest later in the season.

Thanks for following along on this journey with us.

Finished the last hoop of the new greenhouse yesterday, installed the panels on the germination station and cleaned the little one out.

Today, we started the day off with a parts run for the dozer and 7 Brew of course!

Then I transplanted and started some seeds. We have peppers, herbs, broccoli, cabbage, onions, shallots and perennials growing in there now 🌱

The germination station is a balmy 88Β° πŸ₯΅ and I have a little pink tint on my arms and face. I'm absolutely loving this weather!

Praying the weather stays nice like this so we can finish up the greenhouse in the next week or so. πŸ™πŸΌ

It's such a blessing to have a spouse that supports all of your dreams πŸ’—

Another shout out to Willie for working so hard today. We got most of the frame up for the new germination station! We are just lacking a couple of brackets to put up the last hoop then we will finish framing with lumber, add the back wall where the stove and fans will go, add a couple extra perlins for hanging baskets and the plastic 😊

Friday, I worked on removing hail damaged panels from the original germination station so I can replace them. We will continue to start seeds in the little bitty Harbor Freight Greenhouse, where it all started πŸ₯ΉπŸ’• I also expanded the raised bed garden, I lack adding a couple of cattle panel trellises and topping off beds with compost.

Stay tuned for continued updates as we make progress this season!

Happy growing, friends!

Shout-out to my husband, Willie, for these custom made feet that will be used on our new 20' Γ— 24' greenhouse. These feet will allow us to anchor the greenhouse to the ground while also making it easier to move if ever needed.

Also, thank you to Kodiak Trailers of Lockwood, Missouri for your help in making this project possible. When possible we choose to support local small businesses and you should too! ** Did you know that approximately 70% of small business income goes back into its local community? ** 😊

Keep watch as we post progress of our new greenhouse build along with plant updates. We'll also be sharing news about the farm stand and farmers market soon.

Thank you for your "likes", "shares", "comments" and support. We appreciate each and every one of our followers and customers.

If you start your own seeds you may have struggled to get certain varieties to germinate well.
Last year I discovered that placing them on damp paper towels in a Ziploc keeps the moisture level just right and allows for about 98% germination - the other 2% that don't germinate are likely bad seed.
Once most of the seeds germinate it's time to transplant into a light fluffy soil and place in the greenhouse (or under grow lights if that's what you have!)
Below I started onions, shallots, basil, oregano, blue fescue, lupine, Echinacea, Lavender and a couple others. I've never had so much success with onions until trying this method and I will not be going back.

Happy growing season, friends!

The show must go on regardless of snow and single digit temps!

Yesterday we celebrated Jaksen's 12th Birthday at home with family after we had to postpone his bowling party.

Willie has been hard at work feeding, breaking ice and checking cows over.

We insulated the chicken coop with hay bales surrounding the outer walls to help block the wind and have the lamb in the garage in a dog crate with a heat lamp to stay safe and warm.

We have a couple of hard to mow areas in the yard due to our walk-out basement/retainer wall and being built on the prairie so I'm planning to plant perennial beds that are beneficial for the pollinators and our medicine cabinet. These will also contain a few of my favorites that self-seed.

A few of my favorites that I plan to include are:
Yarrow, Calendula, German Chamomile, Echinacea, Black-Eyed Susan, Lemon Balm, Peppermint, Bee Balm, Lavender πŸͺ»

What are your favorite perennials? Why?
