Your waist circumference may predict heart risk better than your weight. https://scitechdaily.com/you-can-have-a-normal-weight-and-still-be-at-risk-for-heart-failure/

Higher waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio were each associated with meaningfully increased heart failure risk; higher BMI, on its own, was not.

Research Highlights Fat stored around the waist, often called belly fat or visceral fat, showed a much stronger link to heart failure risk than body mass index (BMI), making waist size a more revealing measure of risk. Inflammation throughout the body emerged as a major factor connecting abd

If you are a pet owner (cats for this study), you are probably aware of the health benefits to humans with reductions in blood pressure, cortisol (stress hormone) and reduced feelings of anxiety/depression. This study shows that purring of cats between 25-50Hz is the same frequency that bones emit frequencies for healing when broken. If you have a fracture and a cat, get him or her purring on or near your fracture site.

Do vegetarians live longer than Omnivores? Not according to this study. Researchers followed over 5,000 Chinese adults aged 80 and older for up to 20 years and found that vegetarians were 19% less likely to become centenarians compared to omnivores, while vegans fared even worse, 29% less likely to reach 100. However, keep in mind that Chinese population eats a variety of seafood and vegetables, not the typical standard American diet most tend to consume.

Inverse associations of vegetarian diet with morbidity and mortality have been observed; however, the role of vegetarian diet on exceptional longevity remains unrevealed.

Pesticide exposure has been linked to chronic health harms. New studies that have measured pesticide exposure in 44 different fruits and veggies found that conventionally grown agriculture increases urine pesticide contamination by nearly 300% compared to organically grown fruits and veggies.

Follow the EWGs Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 to get an idea as to some of the most highly contaminated foods.

Check out EWG's Dirty Dozen list to help decide when you should splurge for organic produce – part of our annual Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce™

Poor sleep may be more than just an unsteady mind. A recent study in Nature Communications with 7,000 participants found that low microbiome diversity was directly tied to poor sleep quality.

Variation in the gut microbiome can reflect host lifestyle, behaviour, and influence blood-based biomarkers. Here the authors examine associations between the microbiota and 150 host phenotypic features in a large cohort of >3,000 individuals.

I often hear patients comment that they feel younger than they actually are. I use a Tanita scale that helps to determine your biological age. Over the years I have ranged from 18yo to as high as 36yo despite having a biological age of 52. According to this article you can determine your biological age using standard blood work as well. (I will have to get the calculations for that).

Do you know your biological age.

A new study suggests that biological age improvements are tied to a reduced stroke risk and improved brain health, suggesting that certain lifestyle changes could help to cut stroke risk and protect the brain.

Millions of studies on sleep have been examined over decades. One thing that can be agreed upon is that sleep patterns with consistent bedtimes and wake-up times should be encouraged.

Researchers have found the optimal amount of sleep that is linked to the best level of insulin sensitivity, which comes to a little less than seven and a half hours.
