Let’s talk Grey Blending….
A little science behind it 🤓
A little lengthy but I think covers a lot 😎
YES -Highlights do help “soften” the appearance of grey hair when growing in. Especially on darker hair. Why?
Hair has 10 levels of color. 1 being black & 10 being lightest blonde. True grey/white hair is like level 11 it’s more of the absence of color. So when you have let’s say darkest brown hair (level 3 ) & you have more than 50% gray that’s growing in your going to see that difference . There is 8 levels difference you have to cross over.
Why highlights work is that it blends in that gap between ALL those levels so it’s not such a harsh difference. Therefore helps soften the regrowth.
YES- grey blending and going natural takes multiple appointments & maintenance in between.
The only way to achieve this especially if starting from a dark base is to lighten the hair.
NO- grey blending is not all just cramming a bunch of highlights in the hair. As you can see here Annmarie’s natural grey pattern is not just all silver. She has more silver/white around the temples (sides) which most women do. But in it too and especially in the back there is still a good amount of dark.
Sometimes it’s yes, adding highlights , but it’s also adding lowlights.
YES- this is a somehwhat tedious process as we try to pick out as much of your light to match that with the highlights , but also picking out the dark to match your natural growth pattern.
YES- please say yes to the olaplex when a stylist recommends it. Olaplex is a bond builder What does that mean?
Lightner AKA bleach ( what we use to lighten your hair) is one of the most potentially damaging chemicals used. As it goes into your hair shaft , swells it and tries its hardest to lift and push out color that is in your hair. When it does that , ( think of your hair shaft as a ladder) and the protein (what your hair is made out of & makes it strong, hold onto color, shine etc…) the lightener breaks down all those rings in the ladder. The olaplex our bond builder helps to protect those rings from being broken down in the first place. So when you’re doing multiple sessions of lightner our job as professionals is to keep your hair healthy.
Yes-There is homework involved even after your appointment. Good shampoo, conditioner and products are a must. If your spending $$$ on services then go home and use products with parabens , sulfates and wax in your just washing all that color literally down the drain. Don’t know what to use ? We can help you!
No- We do NOT charge crazy prices for products. We want professional products to be affordable to you, it better for you & therefore better for us when we’re servicing you.
