Let’s talk co-regulation! This is the building block for self regulation. It is so important as adults we are aware of our own emotions. Children are learning how to self regulate, co-regulation is when a person assists with calming another by using their calm state, calm voice, and slow breathing. In order to co-regulate you need to be regulated yourself. So take the minute, let them know how you feel, let them know you are there for them. Show them how you regulate yourself, take deep breaths, walk away if you need to. Then return and help them regulate.
