🌾 Today is 🌾
It may be hard to imagine now, but Lombard’s roots are planted firmly in agriculture. Today, we honor the farmers whose hard work built the foundation of our community.

One of those local legends was Peter Hoy, a dedicated dairy farmer and true pillar of Lombard. His land, once known as Alfalfa Farm, or more fondly the Peter Hoy Dairy Farm, covered a large stretch of property, a portion of which is now home to the Sunset Knolls Park District Facility!

🏫 Fun fact: The building at Sunset Knolls was originally Peter Hoy Elementary School, named in honor of the man who was so beloved in the community.

Peter Hoy was more than a farmer, he was a generous neighbor and educator at heart. He welcomed schoolchildren to his farm to meet the animals and learn about rural life. And in the winter, he brought joy to the community with sleigh rides around the farm, complete with jingling bells. ❄️🎶

Farming is about more than crops and cattle — it's about tradition, community, and care. Today, we say thank you to the farmers past and present who keep those values alive.

Happy 4th of July!
