The non-profit public benefit Lompoc Hospital Foundation was incorporated Sept. 12, 1990 with a goal of promoting health education in the community, raising funds to purchase critically needed medical technology or equipment and educating the public about the hospital’s services, facilities and programs. Through its special events, Foundation members have raised $3.1 million, with a total fundraising effort of $9.6 million in the past quarter-century. The Foundation is currently in the midst of a $2 million capital campaign to pay for the renovation of rooms at the Comprehensive Care Center, the skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility run by Lompoc Valley Medical Center. The Foundation’s membership is now about 3,800 people, with a Foundation Board of Trustees with 80 members. There is no fee to join the Lompoc Hospital Foundation. We are honored to support the mission of expanding healthcare in our community and to be raising funds to help facilitate the opening of the new Lompoc Health - Village Clinic!

Thank you to the more than 40 attendees at Wednesday evening's "Stop the Bleed" lecture by LVMC's Dr. William Ganske! This educational session informed the audience about the importance of being able to apply lifesaving measures in an emergency, such as adding pressure to a wound, packing a wound with gauze and applying a tourniquet until first responders can arrive.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for Nourish Lompoc: Pasta Fagioli at the Dick DeWees Community and Senior Center!
It was wonderful to see community members come together to learn, cook and connect around nutritious food made with locally sourced, seasonal produce.
We are especially grateful to Route One Farmers Market Executive Director Shelby Wild Brown for sharing her cooking expertise and nutrition education, and to LVMC Registered Dietitian Patricia Bergstrom for answering questions and supporting participants throughout the event.
A heartfelt thank-you goes to our sponsors and partners --Lompoc Valley Medical Center, Route One Farmers Market, the Farms Together Program and the City of Lompoc Recreation and Parks Division -- as well as the volunteers who helped make this hands-on experience possible.
From learning new skills to taking home freshly made soup and free produce from the mobile farmers market, this event truly highlighted the power of collaboration in building a healthier community. We appreciate everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success!

We are so grateful to all those who attended our free community lecture Monday evening on “Stroke: Why Every Minute Matters.”
The lecture, presented by the Foundation’s Community Education Committee, featured Lauren Fink, BSN, RN, CNRN, SCRN, the Clinical Manager, Service Line Operations – Neuroscience at Cottage Health in Santa Barbara. Additionally, LVMC Emergency Department Director Ryan Stevens, RN, presented about the hospital’s recertification of its Stroke Ready Hospital designation through the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ).
Fink advised people to know the signs of stroke, using the easy-to-remember phrase BE FAST. Stroke symptoms can appear suddenly, and quick action can save a life.
BE FAST stands for:
B — Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
E — Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
F — Face: Face drooping or numbness, especially on one side
A — Arm: Arm or leg weakness or numbness on one side of the body
S — Speech: Slurred speech or difficulty speaking or understanding
T — Time: Call 911 immediately if any of these symptoms appear

We are truly thankful for the dedicated staff across all facilities and departments who work tirelessly to care for our community every day. It was wonderful to connect with so many team members and share our appreciation in person.
