This conference is always a special treat for us... we work hard and learn a lot but we also have a lot of fun! We will re-open at our normal time on Monday, March 2, refreshed and excited to put our new knowledge to use!

Mindy’s anniversary fell on a Saturday so I somehow let it slip by without making a Facebook post but I do want to say publicly how incredibly blessed I am to have had her as a friend and co-worker for the past 25 years! She is truly a gift from God!

We will be closed Monday due to the impending weather. We are so thankful for those people out there who work through the storms to keep us safe. Praying for safety for all!

While the snow falls heavy and the cold cuts deep, most of us are able to stay indoors, safe and warm.
But for many others, winter storms are not something to watch through a window — they are something to walk straight into.

To our police officers, firefighters, EMS, nurses, and National Guard — thank you.
Thank you for standing calm in the middle of chaos, for responding when fear is high, and for putting others first when conditions are at their worst.

To emergency management teams, linemen, and plow operators — thank you.
Thank you for long shifts, frozen hands, sleepless nights, and work that often happens quietly, without recognition. Because of you, roads reopen, power returns, and communities keep moving forward.

Winter storms do not wait.
Emergencies do not pause. And yet, you show up anyway — knowing the risks, accepting the responsibility, and carrying the weight of countless lives depending on your actions.

Behind every flashing light, cleared street, restored power line, and rescued soul is sacrifice.
Time away from family. Physical exhaustion. Emotional strength. And a commitment to serve, no matter how harsh the conditions become.

These storms remind us of something important.
Heroes don’t always wear capes — sometimes they wear uniforms, heavy boots, helmets, and reflective gear, covered in snow but full of purpose.

So today, we say thank you.
Thank you for your courage, your resilience, and your unwavering dedication. You keep us safe when the world feels cold and uncertain.

May you stay protected, may your strength be renewed, and may you always know how deeply appreciated you truly are. ❄️🤍

❄️ 👀 Snow. Icy roads. Blasting furnaces. All are signs of winter, and all can have impacts on your eyes. 👀❄️

Here are some of the ways that winter can affect your eye health, and tips for prevention from Lookafteryoureyes.org:

Winter sun
• Sunglasses aren’t just for summer. Snow and ice are reflective, so the sun’s rays can reach your eyes from below as well as above. The low sun in winter can be dazzling, so wear sunglasses on sunny winter days, particularly when driving.
• If you wear glasses, ask about having anti-reflection coating on the lenses to reduce the effects of sun glare while driving.

Dry eyes
Central heating can make dry eyes feel worse. There are some simple steps you can take to feel more comfortable:
• Lower the temperature in rooms when possible.
• Open windows, even for a few minutes.
• Use a humidifier.
• You can get moisturizing eye drops over the counter from your optometrist or pharmacist.

Winter lighting
Many people will be working from home this winter, and lighting is very important. You will see better in bright light than in dim light, so you might find that you need to wear your glasses more when the lighting is poor. If you have problems seeing in low light, we recommend:
• Sitting close to a window during the day if you need to see something clearly, like the text in a book or magazine.
• Having good lighting close to you at home when you need it, including a light source like a desk light.
• Spending time outside. There is evidence that encouraging children to spend time outdoors could reduce the onset of myopia, so do try and make sure they have some time outside each day.

We are having SERIOUS problems with our internet! It has gone out 10 times just this morning, and it's only 9am. They have been working on it for the past week, but they cannot find the problem. Meanwhile, our phones and texting system are unreliable. Please be patient with us! If you leave a message, we will get it, but we may not get it immediately. We will get back to you as soon as we can!

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month!

According to the National Eye Institute, glaucoma is a leading cause of vision loss and blindness in the United States. But as many as half of people with glaucoma don’t know they have it.

Glaucoma has no early symptoms. The only way to check for it is to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam.

For more information on risk factors and resources, visit https://www.nei.nih.gov/about/education-and-outreach/glaucoma-resources.

Happy New Year! We will be closed for inventory on Monday, January 5. We will re-open tomorrow, January 6 at 8:30am .
