Here are a few tips to enjoy the night without digestive regrets:

• Opt for dark chocolate in moderation
• Pair candy with water, not soda
• Balance sugar with protein and fiber
• Don’t eat right before bed

Ever heard of capsule endoscopy? It’s a fascinating, minimally invasive way to see inside your GI tract. You simply swallow a small, pill-sized camera that takes thousands of pictures as it travels through your digestive system. Images are sent to a recorder you wear on your waist.

This test is especially useful for examining areas that traditional endoscopes can’t easily reach, like the middle parts of the small intestine.

While it’s very safe, there’s a small risk the capsule could get stuck in narrow parts of the bowel, so your care team will review your medical history and anatomy before recommending it.

If you’ve had symptoms like unexplained digestive bleeding or persistent abdominal discomfort, ask your gastroenterologist whether capsule endoscopy might be right for you.

Many people assume pancreas issues always mean diabetes but that isn’t true. Your pancreas can be affected by several other disorders too.

🔹 Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas. It can be acute (sudden onset) or chronic (long-term damage). 🩺
🔹 Autoimmune Pancreatitis (AIP): A rare form where your immune system attacks your pancreas. It often responds to steroids.
🔹 Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI): When the pancreas doesn’t produce enough digestive enzymes, making it hard to absorb fats and nutrients. PERT (enzyme therapy) may help.
🔹 Pancreatic cancer: A serious condition where malignant growth occurs in pancreatic tissue.

If you experience persistent upper abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, changes in stool, or digestive disturbances, don’t assume it’s “just reflux” or “just stress.” See a gastroenterologist for a full evaluation.

🦠 Did you know diagnosing parasites often requires more than one test? According to the CDC, a stool exam (ova & parasite test), blood tests, or even endoscopy may be needed to detect parasites causing symptoms like diarrhea, cramping, or gas.

If GI symptoms persist and routine tests don’t show a cause, consider exploring parasitic evaluation with your gastroenterologist.

Celiac Disease vs. Gluten Intolerance: What’s the Difference?

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder. When someone with celiac eats gluten, their immune system attacks the lining of the small intestine, damaging its ability to absorb nutrients. Untreated, it can lead to serious complications.

Gluten intolerance (also called non-celiac gluten sensitivity) causes similar symptoms like bloating, gas, or abdominal pain but does not trigger the autoimmune reaction or intestinal damage seen in celiac disease.

Because symptoms overlap, testing is key. Before going gluten-free, talk to a gastroenterologist to rule out celiac disease first.
