This week, we had the honor of attending the Cancer Survivors Luncheon @ HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge—a heartfelt gathering to celebrate the strength, resilience, and stories of those who have faced and overcome cancer.

It was an afternoon filled with hope, connection, and gratitude. One of the most moving moments was a beautiful balloon release ceremony, where survivors wrote personal messages on their balloons—words of remembrance, hope, and celebration—and sent them soaring into the sky. 🎈💙

Each balloon carried not only a message, but a symbol of courage and triumph.

To all of our incredible patients and survivors: thank you for inspiring us every day. Your journeys remind us why we do what we do.

As surgeons, we have the profound privilege of witnessing what organ donation truly means—a second chance at life. We’ve seen families go from heartbreak to hope because of the selfless decision of a stranger.

Behind every transplant is not just a surgery, but a story. A mother who gets to watch her child grow. A teenager who finally breathes freely. A father who walks his daughter down the aisle.

The need is real—more than 100,000 people in the U.S. are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant. One donor can save 8 lives and enhance dozens more.

This month, and every month, I honor the donors, their families, and the resilience of those still waiting.
If you haven’t registered yet, please consider it.
You have the power to change lives—permanently.
💚

This February, we're honoring National Cancer Prevention Month by spreading awareness about the importance of early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer and other cancers. Did you know that colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States?

Regular screenings and adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce your risk of developing colorectal cancer. Here are a few tips to help you stay proactive about your health:

1️⃣ Schedule regular screenings: Starting at age 45, individuals should begin regular screenings for colorectal cancer. Early detection can save lives!

2️⃣ Maintain a healthy diet: Eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while limiting red meat and processed foods can help lower your risk of developing cancer.

3️⃣ Stay active: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity most days of the week. Exercise can reduce the risk of colon cancer and improve overall health.

4️⃣ Quit smoking: Smoking increases the risk of developing various types of cancer, including colorectal cancer. Seek support to quit smoking and improve your overall health.

5️⃣ Know your family history: If you have a family history of colorectal cancer or other cancers, talk to your doctor about personalized screening recommendations.

Prevention starts with knowledge and proactive steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Together, let's raise awareness and support each other in the fight against cancer. 💙

Happy Ostomy Awareness Day 2023
Today, we come together to shed light on an important topic that affects the lives of many incredible individuals. 💪 Ostomies may be a part of someone's life, but they don't define who they are. It's a day to show support, raise awareness, and break down stigmas surrounding ostomies. 🙌

Let's celebrate the strength and resilience of those living with ostomies and their amazing caregivers. 🙏 They inspire us every day with their courage and determination. 💪

💡 What is an ostomy? It's a life-saving surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdomen (stoma) to allow the passage of waste when the natural digestive or urinary system is no longer functional. It's a testament to the incredible advances in medical science that have improved countless lives. 💉

Today, let's use our voices to educate, support, and uplift those who have undergone ostomy surgery. 💬 Share your stories, experiences, and resources that can make a real difference. ❤️ Together, we can raise awareness and foster a more inclusive and understanding world. 🌎

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Most women can survive breast cancer if caught and treated early.
The American Cancer Society recommends starting screening with mammograms between ages 40 and 45, and yearly thereafter.
If there is a family history of breast cancer, then you should start mammograms earlier.

To reduce your risk of breast cancer:
1. Don't smoke
2. Drink less alcohol
3. Exercise daily.
4. Maintain a healthy weight
5. Eat the rainbow of colors of vegetables
6. Avoid radiation
7. Breastfeed your babies
8. Limit hormone therapy

Please take care of yourself. You matter to us!

Happy Chronic Disease Day.
What is one health change you can make this week to decrease your risk of chronic disease? Ideas below..
- 20 min of walking and getting outside. schedule a walk with a friend instead of a coffee or meal date.
- skip the Latte/Frappuccino and go for a drip coffee with cream and sugar. You will save about 100-200 calories depending on the drink you usually get.
- chose a vegetable/salad as a side instead of fries with your meal.
- switch out your ice cream with a protein shake tonight
- schedule your physical, colonoscopy, or mammogram so that your provider can detect problems early! Our practice hears this every week "I wish I had done my colonoscopy sooner"

We care about you and your health here at RMCRS. 🍎
