Many people with major depression may find that their first antidepressant doesn’t fully work—or doesn’t work well enough. Studies show that switching medications is quite common:

• In a large study of 59,000+ patients with Major Depressive Disorder, ≈ 16% switched antidepressants during an episode of care (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23067031/).

• Seventy-two percent of switches appeared within 3 months after treatment initiation.

Switching often reflects efforts to find better responses or manage side effects. It highlights the importance of ongoing monitoring, timely reassessment, and open communication between patients and healthcare providers.
