Surgical recovery can be challenging but when patients are well informed, well cared for and feel heard it doesn’t need to be difficult.

One of the most frequent questions I am asked is about surgical recovery. When can I get back to work or look presentable for friends and family? Our beautiful patient left our office following surgery at 4:30pm yesterday and she’s at work this morning following buccal fat reduction. A total of 11ml (over 2 teaspoons) of the cheek fat pad was removed through 2 small incisions inside the mouth. No bruising, minimal swelling, no visible incision, quick recovery.

Anesthesia: local only, no pills, IV or breathing tube

Time: 30 minutes
Peak swelling: Day 1-2

This lovely patient called the practice over the weekend with a question about the color of her skin following a deep plane facelift. It turns out that some of the surgical marker was creating a mild discoloration. We were able to handle her question within minutes since I take all of these calls. Every one of our surgery patients is provided a number to reach me, their surgeon, 24/7. They can also text photos in a HIPAA compliant system avoiding the need to come to the office in the vast majority of cases.

Loving this neck liposuction and buccal fat pad removal result! Thank you to our beautiful patient for allowing us to share her results.

This combination procedure requires 60-90 minutes of surgery time. There is absolutely no need for heavy anesthesia. We perform this procedure with sedative pills or local anesthesia only based on our patient’s preference. Downtime is typically one week.
