Getting ready to fly the nest. This baby Say’s Phoebe flycatcher looks as though she’s considering the risk of jumping and not being able to fly. We’ll be sad to have them gone - they have a melodic song and it’s been amazing to watch the parents fly from dawn to dusk to feed the 3 hatchlings. OTOH it will be nice to have a clean front porch again as this nest is almost directly above our front door. I hear it’s a good omen when bird raise their young in the eave of one’s home.

This little barn swallow set up shop in spite of a hostile work environment. We installed a nesting deterrent on that ledge and it worked well for the last 3 years for the birds who built nests with grass and straw. But this mama bird built a mud fortress and will not be denied! I like that. She can stay.

Do you know a cynic? Ever noticed how they can drain the life from the conversation or suck the air out of a room? Cynicism is the #1 red flag of burnout. You should nip that in the bud for everyone's sake. But here's the deal - cynics are wounded people. When you say "no" to cynicism, keep compassion for the cynic.
