We maximize children's abilities by providing therapy and parent support services to those with limited access. Emory Chang, M.D. Charles Durnin, M.D.

Tichenor Clinic serves children & families who do not have access to therapy services and programs. The Clinic has been operating for almost 100 years —the dream of Adelaide Tichenor who, along with many of her friends, provided an endowment to fund the original orthopedic clinic and school. Strong leadership has ensured the current needs of young children are met. Our current Executive Director Kathryn Miles was preceded by Lori DeLaney, who served for 27 years, Nancy Mahan Hegelheimer served for 25 years and Gladdes Neff served for 30 years. is our current Medical Director, overseeing care for children with developmental delays, congenital conditions, injuries, and muscle weakness. served as Medical Director for 25 years and has volunteered for over 48 years. Therapists build a team around the child giving parents information, therapy and tools so they can help their child reach their full potential. The staff uses evidence-based clinical practice to conquer challenges in new ways! Physical therapists help children move and explore their environment. Speech therapists give children the tools to communicate effectively. Occupational therapists develop sensory, motor, behavioral, and thinking skills that are needed for daily activities like dressing, feeding, writing, play and social participation. Tichenor partners with parents every step of the way to help their children thrive.

This evaluations workshop explains, in both English and Spanish, the components of a psychoeducational evaluation including motor and sensory skills, cognitive and academic assessment, communication, language and speech, and behavioral and mental health, and how these areas connect to support learning and educational planning.

For our friends who can’t wait in long lines, LBC Hero Squad will have an Abilities Line.

If you’re attending, please look for our sign or find a Local Hearts volunteer and let them know you’re with the Hero Squad — they’ll guide you to our area.

Please note: this annual event welcomes over 2,000 attendees. It’s well-organized so you can receive your items and go, but parking may be limited and crowds are expected early.

If large crowds feel overwhelming, consider arriving later in the afternoon when it’s typically calmer.

✨ Volunteer info: If you’d like to help, please arrive at MacArthur Park/Homeland Cultural Center by 8AM.
