It’s time we talk about an intense emotional challenge that many new mothers face but rarely discuss: Postpartum Rage.

This isn’t just “being tired” or “snapping.” It’s characterized by sudden outbursts of anger, extreme irritability, and aggression. It can feel like a complete loss of emotional control.

💔 What it feels like:

Intense anger triggered by minor issues.

Frequent yelling or inability to control your temper.

Feeling overwhelmed and having violent thoughts or urges.

Crushing guilt and shame after an outburst.

💡 Why it happens:

It’s a perfect storm of factors: dramatic hormonal shifts, severe sleep deprivation, the stress of new motherhood, and often a lack of adequate support and isolation.

🗣️ This is not your fault. It’s a real condition.

It is often linked to Postpartum Depression and Anxiety, but it can absolutely happen on its own.

If you are experiencing this, you are not alone.

Here are small steps you can take:

Seek Professional Help: Talk to your OB-GYN, midwife, or a mental health professional. Treatment options like therapy or medication can help.

Lean on Your Network: Set healthy boundaries, ask for help from your partner, family, or friends, and connect with other mothers.

Prioritize Rest: Sleep is a non-negotiable part of mental health.

Let’s break the silence and normalize the conversation. If you know a new mom, check in on her—and ask how her mindis doing, not just her baby.

Are You Having a Hard Time Making Choices?

How do you know you made the right choice? Did you know that wise mind is a state of mind? You can use wise mind to make tough decisions.

How Wise Mind Helps You Make Tough Decisions

In much of life, there is no right or wrong choice. Things are not always black and white. Instead, we operate from a state of grey. We work from the state of the unknown. Common questions plague us, such as; Did I make the right choice? Would this have worked out better if I had done this?

An example of a tough choice with no right answer , is a terminal cancer patient afflicted with the option of having more surgery to extend their life a few months or no further surgery.

People may have their opinions on what this person should or should not do, but there is no globally right choice. There is a choice that is right for that person. It may seem that either option leads to the same outcome of death, but this is not the complete picture.

The choice that is right for the individual leads to peace. Only in peace, a person can experience the present moment fully. Only in the present moment, are we able to come alive and live to the fullest.

Operating from wise mind brings that peace that allows you to feel alive.

What is Wise Mind?

Wise mind is a concept coined by Dr. Marshal Linehan. Interestingly enough, she created Dialtecial Behavior Therapy ( DBT ) in response to her mental illness. Countless therapy sessions, hospitals, and training clinics use her therapy modality to help people.

According to DBT, there are three states of mind.

Three States of Mind

Emotional Mind – This is the state of mind that is driven by emotions. When a person acts impulsively or in extreme rage, they are usually in their emotional mind. They are making a choice or behavior based on how they feel

Reasonable Mind- This is the logical state of mind. It sticks to the facts and evidence only. Although it may prevent impulsivity, it lacks nuance. This state of mind is intelligent and scientific.

Wise Mind- Is the overlap/balance of the emotional mind and reasonable mind. It considers both what you are feeling and the facts. When you are in wise mind, you are calm and at peace. It is that feeling of intuition and the sense of ” just knowing.”

How to Tap Into Your Wise Mind to Make Tough Choices

1. Be aware of your feelings. – Do you know what you are feeling? Can you label your feelings? Are you able to separate your emotions from your thoughts? If you are struggling with this, take a look at a feeling wheel and see if you can choose your feelings.

2.Observe your thoughts- Be mindful of what judgments you are casting on the situations. What thoughts are you having?
3. Pay attention to the facts. – Don’t judge the facts, but consider the facts.
4. Stay in the present moment- If you find yourself thinking,” this always happens” or ” It will always be this way,” you are not in the present moment. Bring yourself to the here and now. Consider only the problem in front of you. Take it one step at a time. What is the issue at hand?
5. Consider what choice brings you calm after going through steps 1-4. If you jump the gun in completing steps 1-4, you may make a comfortable choice and not a wise mind choice. The comfortable option is very often a choice that is routine. This choice may be rooted in an emotional or rational state of mind. You must complete steps 1-4 before going with the decision that brings you calm.

How do you know you made the right choice?

Many choices are not black and white; they are grey. What is the right choice for one person may not be the best choice for another? Thus the only way to have confidence in your decisions is to use wise mind.

Visit our clinic and meet our lovely psychiatrist and therapist to learn about DBT, making hard choices, or how to reach a state of calm.
