Black History Month is often framed as a time of remembrance. We look back. We honor. We celebrate those who paved the way.
But this year, I chose to look around. To be in the present and celebrate what I see.

Through the Still We Rise, Still We Lead series, I had the privilege of sitting in conversation with leaders across industries, finance, law, entrepreneurship, publishing, community development, strategy, and innovation. Each guest brought a distinct perspective. Each story expanded what Black leadership looks like in real time.

So, check out their stories, listen to their interviews. Each one is making a better community today.

Shonda Scott: What it means to build systems that allow others to win. Black History Month is often a reflection on breakthroughs. But just as important are the builders, the ones creating systems that make those breakthroughs sustainable. Shonda Scott is one of those builders.

She was building young minds, managing classrooms, designing curriculum, and leading in ways that were both visible and invisible. When she transitioned into corporate project management, she encountered a reality many career changers know too well: the challenge was not capability. It was a translation.

Leading Without Losing Yourself with Charise Beckett

For many women in leadership, success has come at a cost.
The cost is not always visible, but it is deeply felt: exhaustion, misalignment, and a quiet erosion of self. Charise Beckett, SHRM-SCP, MSOD, has made it her life’s work to name that cost, and to offer a different way forward.

The Sacred Work of Preserving Black History with Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson

For Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson, this truth is not a slogan; it is the foundation of her leadership.

As President and CEO of the Association of African American Museums (AAAM), Dr. Coleman-Robinson stands at the intersection of history, culture, and responsibility. Leadership is often discussed in terms of visibility, influence, and power. Andrew Frazier, MBA, CFA, offers a different, and far more enduring, definition. His work centers on ownership, stewardship, and long-term thinking, the kind of leadership that builds communities not just for today, but for generations.

After transitioning from employee to entrepreneur without a built in network, Andrew created The POWER BREAKFAST, a quarterly forum designed to foster learning, relationships, and shared wisdom.

Thank you, Andrew, for being part of the Still We Rise, Still We Lead Black History Month series.
