It is SO heartbreaking that we are taught that disrespecting and under-fueling our body is a good thing for us.

Starting to listen to hunger cues is super difficult after years of dieting and disordered eating. Many people struggle with the idea that hunger cues must be super strong in order to justify eating. Deserving to eat only if hungry is just another diet and form of restriction. diet culture encourages you to disrespect your body. Diet culture encourages you to not appropriately fuel yourself.

Listening and honoring hunger cues only when they are super strong is disrespectful to your body. Let’s think about how we would treat a child. Do you think it is healthy to feed a child only when they are super hungry and are getting a headache? Of course not! We would want to feed that child regularly and would honor when they say "hey, I'm a bit hungry or I can eat right now." We all have those same intuitive subtle hunger cues as children do. We just have to get back in touch with them and start practicing honoring them even if it feels uncomfortable. Why? Because honoring your subtle hunger cues-

1. Gets you more in tune with your body
2. Helps create body trust
3. Is the respectful and healthy thing to do for your body
4. Moves you further away from your disordered eating
5. Gets your body out of a stressed out state
6. Improves mood and anxiety
7. Gets your mind off of food and onto life
8. Gets you closer to intuitive eating
9. Is what you deserve
10. And so much more!
Drop a line below. Why have you found honoring subtle hunger cues important?
(Note- for those struggling with an eating disorder, the brain is conditioned to reject hunger cues, ultimately leading to a lack of hunger cues. Chat with your treatment team. This post should not be in place of your treatment team.)

Sometimes we keep ourselves busy so that we don't have time to overthink.

Diets are dumb! Get help with learning to listen to your body. Trust the inner wisdom that guides you. According to my dear friend and colleague, β€œThe only guilt around food you should have is if you stole it.”
