Long Beach ASSP Virtual Chapter Meeting
June 16 | 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Topic Are You Ready to Lead “Safety Differently”?
Register at our website https://longbeach.assp.org/event/

“Safety Differently” is one of several emerging philosophical approaches that diverge from common practices where OSH professionals focus on compliance – playing the role of “safety cop” or “safety officer”. Other variations include “Safety I/II”, “HOP” and “Psychological Safety”. The common theme is flipping the script – empowering and engaging workers by learning to see them not as problems to be solved but as solutions to be harnessed, and creating a work environment that fosters innovation, increased capacity and deep resilience.

These principles are critical for optimum functioning as a leader in your organization and the impact you may have in that role. During this session, we’ll challenge your current philosophies about how to lead, looking to uncover myths and misconceptions you may be unconsciously holding onto that are hindering the success of your leadership efforts. Then we’ll align the concepts of these emerging methods to inclusive leadership approaches and discuss how to leverage them in your leadership efforts. Get ready to do some introspective work to consider whether your leadership style may unconsciously be hindering your success. After this session you will be able to say yes when asked – “Are you ready to lead safety differently”?

Learning Objectives
1. Attendees will learn how recent professional practices built on the concepts behind Safety Differently, Safety I/II, HOP, and Psychological Safety can be applied to improve their leadership skill set and outcomes.
2. Attendees will be taken through a series of introspective questions and presentation of concepts that will help them recognize their current leadership philosophy and style and identify areas where their leadership style may unconsciously be hindering their success.
3. Attendees will discover how to adjust and improve their leadership style to focus on engaging those they lead by building relationships based on collaboration, trust and inclusivity.
