FRIDAY BRIEFING – LET'S SLOW DOWN

https://mailchi.mp/bixbyknollsinfo/bixby-brief-jan-23-10407495

Hi everyone!

This week has been a reminder of how important care and caution are to our community. Many of you may have heard about a recent accident that affected MedCompounders Pharmacy and Sala Coffee & Wine, and we’re incredibly thankful that no one was seriously hurt. In moments like this, it’s important that we slow down- both literally and figuratively. Please remember to reduce your speed, stay alert for pedestrians, and look out for one another as we move through the neighborhood. Care and awareness go a long way in keeping everyone safe. It's so important to continue our support for these businesses, whether through donations, kind words, or continued patronage. Let’s keep looking out for each other and supporting the establishments and people who make our neighborhood feel like home. 💛

In lighter news, there’s plenty happening around the neighborhood to keep things buzzing. This week, Sunshine Rabbit Center is hosting an adoption event at SteelCraft on Saturday, and Novel U Wellness has a January special. Next week, catch Long Beach Opera on January 31 and February 1, or see Julius Caesar performed by Long Beach Shakespeare Company. From Universal Fitness launching a new training program and Dainty Disco rolling out a fresh craft option, to community happenings like District 5’s meeting next Thursday (January 29), there are plenty of ways to show up, connect, and support local this week.

Special things:
First Fridays will return in February!
Sala Coffee & Wine is raising money for their recovery.
Sunshine Rabbit Center is hosting an adoption event at Steelcraft Saturday!
Universal Fitness is offering a new training program.
Beachwood Brewing & Distilling is soon unveiling two new cocktails!
Kai Superfoods is now open!
Cute Little Wedding Spots is offering a special Vantine's Day Sale.
Dainty Disco launched a new craft option!

Celebrating 4 years of Sushi Nikkei 🎊 Michelin Guide, Peruvian-style sushi, and a true Bixby Knolls gem. We’re so lucky to have them in the neighborhood. Stop by this weekend, congratulate the team, and let’s keep showing them love.

Many of you may have heard about the recent accident that impacted Medcompounders Pharmacy and Sala Coffee & Wine. We’re incredibly grateful that no one was seriously injured.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been working closely with city departments and partner organizations to help connect both businesses with support and resources as they navigate next steps.

As Sala Coffee & Wine works through details with insurance, a GoFundMe has been created to help cover uninsured and indirect impacts of the temporary closure. Funds will support staff payroll, rent and utilities, outstanding invoices, continued support for local vendors, and operational costs associated with reopening. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference.

Let’s continue showing up for our local businesses and neighbors. 💛
