This pronouncement from the Navajo has increasing
relevance in our times. Daw-lee, let me not be
ashamed before the earth.

Un Messaggio di Ringraziamento

Greetings and Thanks to Each Other as people

To the Earth, mother of all, Greetings and Thanks.

To all the Waters, waterfalls and Rain, rivers and oceans, Greetings and Thanks.

To all the Fish life, Greetings and Thanks.

To the grains and greens, Beans and Berries, as one we send Thanks to the Food Plants.

To the Medicine Herbs of the world and their keepers, Greetings and Thanks.

To all the Animals and their teachings, Greetings and thanks.

To the Trees, for shelter and shade, for fruit and beauty, Greetings and Thanks.

To all the Birds, large and small, joyful Greetings and Thanks.

And from the four directions, the Four Winds,
Thank You for purifying the air we breathe and giving us strenght, Greetings and thanks.

To the Thunderers, our grandfathers in the sky, we hear your voices, Greetings and Thanks.

And now to the Sun, for the light of a new day and all the fires of life, Greetings and Thanks.

To our oldest grandmother, the Moon, leader of women all over the world, Greetings and Thanks.
and to The Stars, for their mystery, beauty and guidance, Greetings and Thanks.

To Our Teachers, from all times, reminding us of how to live in harmony, Greetings and Thanks.

And for all the gifts of Creation, for all the love around us, Greetings and Thanks.

YOUR PRAYER

only began
with words,

each one
you realize,

just
a hand
on the door
to silence,

even
in your
gathered
chanted strength

what you said
in the end
was only
a shoulder
against the grain
of wood

trying to keep
the entrance
open,

until that door
which
had been no door
at all
gave in

to necessary
grief,
which is really
only the full
understanding
of what
you were missing
all along,
which

is really
just that
vulnerability
you needed
to make
a proper
invitation,

which is really
just you
admitting
the full depth
of your love at last.

The heart-broken
heart
coming to
heart-felt rest

the opening
inside you
now filled to the
gleaming brim

casting
its generous beam,

YOUR PRAYER marks an experience, that in many ways initiated the whole cycle of experiences laid out so physically in 'Still Possible' ; witnessing the death-bed monologue of a monk at Mount Saint Bernard Abbey, in the North of England, saying he had 'given up’ praying years ago. The first thought was, in witnessing his testimony, was that at one time he had lost his faith - only to hear him then say that he had given up praying because his whole life had become a living breathing prayer, that he had lived and indeed breathed from the atmosphere of prayer for years, whether that atmosphere was given words or not. The next scene was of the monk in is coffin with all his fellow monks chanting the offices around him, the next being lowered gently into the earth. There was an intimate sense of the friendship with prayer and silence allowing a friendship with all our necessary dying; in life, as in death. DW

Elevation

Above the lakes, above the valleys ,
The mountains and the woods, the clouds, the seas,
