💡 Smart homes aren’t always so “smart” for people with hearing loss.
I recently read an article about how smart home tech (things like doorbells, voice assistants, and security systems) often miss the mark for people with hearing challenges.
And honestly? It’s true.
🔈So many of these devices are built around SOUND. They listen, they beep, they ding. But for people who rely more on visual or tactile cues, those alerts don’t always come through. You shouldn’t have to guess whether your doorbell rang or if Alexa actually heard you!
💬As someone who works with hearing technology every day, I believe accessibility means options: lights that flash, alerts that vibrate, captions, and systems designed to meet you where you are…not the other way around.

👂 Wax on, wax off… but leave it to the pros! Depending on how much wax you have and its consistency, we may use:
🛠️ A scoop or loop to gently lift it out
💨 Suction to vacuum it away
💧 Irrigation to flush it safely
All methods are safe and done right here in our office. Your DIY cotton swab adventures? Not so safe. Your ears deserve professional care! 😉

Question of the day!! “If I’m driving in my car…how will I hear with my hearing aids? Through my hearing aids or the car’s Bluetooth?”

Great question. I hear this ALL the time! The truth is, there are countless combos of hearing aids, cell phones, and car models out there… which means no two setups are exactly alike.

Here’s the general scoop:

👉 If you answer from your car’s system (steering wheel button/interface), the sound usually streams through your car speakers. Your hearing aids then amplify the sound just like they do for everyday listening. Bonus: everyone else in the car can hear too!

👉 If you want calls just in your hearing aids, answer directly from your hearing aid button or your cell phone (not while driving, of course 😉). That way, the call streams straight to your ears for the clearest sound quality.

✨ Tech can be amazing… and honestly, a little confusing sometimes! The good news? We’re here to walk through YOUR specific setup and tailor it to your needs, whether you want all the bells and whistles or just the basics. 👍

You might be surprised to hear this…
👀 I actually don’t see a lot of hearing aids come into our practice that were bought online or at a local pharmacy.
I know the ads and commercials are everywhere…it can feel like you can’t scroll for 5 minutes without seeing “miracle hearing aids” or “just order online” solutions.
But here’s the reality I see in my practice: most people end up choosing a prescription solution. Why? Because hearing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Just because something is popping up all over your feed doesn’t mean it’s the best fit for you.
