As I prepare to leave CFM practice, and move onto my next chapter, I want to share how deeply grateful I am for our practice and this community. It was not an easy decision.

To my colleagues, thank you for inspiring me, mentoring me, and leading by example. Working alongside you showed me what women’s health care can look like and feel like when it is rooted in patient centered care and evidence-based practice. I am a better clinician because of you, and I will carry what I learned here into everything that comes next.

To the University of Colorado, thank you for helping me dial in my ideas, refine my goals, and envision my future.

And to our patients and families who trusted me during some of the most vulnerable and powerful moments of their lives, it has truly been an honor to care for you. I am so grateful you allowed me to be part of your journey.

Can midwifery-led care lower the chances of a C-section?

CU College of Nursing 's Jessica Anderson, DNP, CNM, and Denise Smith, PhD, CNM, teamed up with researchers from the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine and the University of Washington to find out. They found midwives play a key role in improving birth outcomes — including fewer unplanned cesarean births.

Shannon Pirrie, DNP, MS, CNM, from CU Anschutz Nursing joined to discuss the CU Anschutz Nursing new MS in Midwifery program—launching in about a year: https://zurl.co/JMEyO

The new program will give students a path to become a midwife, even if they don't have a background in nursing.
