And… 3D Printing for the win!

The Library’s 3D printer, affectionately nicknamed “The Mother Hen,” is about to be very busy laying eggs for the Longmont Recreation's Underwater Easter Egg Hunt. Please be patient with her. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings are now officially egg-laying time as she produces hundreds of colorful creations. There’s a backstory here. 🤣

Each year, the Aquatics team hosts the annual Underwater Easter Egg Hunt. In the past, lifeguards spent hours filling inexpensive plastic clamshell eggs with rocks and hot-gluing them shut so they would sink. The problem? They pop open. They float. And they break.

Recreation Maintenance Supervisor Phil Henry ran a small test batch of 3D printed eggs on his home machine and discovered they are durable, sinkable, and downright adorable.

Enter the Library’s 3D printer, now hard at work producing about 400 eggs that lucky participants will hunt for at the bottom of the pool on March 28.

We love a creative collaboration. Registration opens for the Underwater Easter Egg Hunt on Tuesday, March 3. Visit
