Is Frequency Or Duration More Important?

Duration of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) sessions isn’t as important as the frequency of sessions.

For example:

Let's say somebody was going to do six hours a week of HBOT.

Scenario 1: They came in on Saturday and did one six hour session

Scenario 2: They came Monday, Wednesday, & Friday and did two hour sessions those three days a week.

Scenario 3: They came in Monday THROUGH Saturday and did 60 minutes, six days a week.

Even though over the course of the week all scenarios total six hours of treatment, I would argue that it's exceptionally more beneficial for the person who came in six days a week for one hour (Scenario 3) than either of the other 2 options.

So, as a general statement, I do want to say that “Overall frequency trumps duration.”

Going in and out of the chamber more often seems to have a bigger effect than the total amount of time someone spends in the chamber.

One question that often arises about Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is it's effect on cataracts.

Research and anecdotal evidence have not shown HBOT to cause cataracts. However, it's important to note that for individuals with pre-existing cataracts, undergoing HBOT could potentially accelerate cataract maturation.

Before starting HBOT, anyone suspecting they might have cataracts should seek a thorough evaluation to understand any potential risks fully.

For those with cataracts interested in HBOT for other health reasons, opting for treatments at lower to mid-range pressures might offer a safer approach, minimizing the risk of accelerated cataract maturation.
