Oscar DeHoyos was experiencing chest pain when he came to Longview Regional for a routine cardiac catheterization with Dr. Greifenkamp. They discovered his problem was much more serious and he was immediately referred to our cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, Dr. David Jayakar.

Dr. Jayakar performed quintuple bypass open heart surgery and saved his life.

Jonathan Greifenkamp, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is licensed in nuclear medicine and echocardiography. He is trained in peripheral intervention and is the only local physician trained in carotid stenting. Dr. Greifenkamp is also the director of the Vein Center of Longview Regional Medical Center, where he performs the most up-to-date venous ablation techniques. Dr. Greifenkamp has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, cm laude, from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. He received his medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and also served as chief resident and assistant professor there.

Dr. Greifenkamp completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and an interventional cardiology fellowship at Methodist DeBakey Heart Institute. Dr. Greifenkamp was born in Galveston and raised in Longview. He now lives in Longview with his wife, Jillian, and three sons.

Samir Germanwala, D.O., FACC, FSCAI, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and has practiced in Longview for over 20 years.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), also known as TAVR or transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), is a procedure to treat aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the aortic valve. The narrowing blocks the flow of blood to your body and forces your heart to work harder.

Dr. Germanwala is the first structural cardiologist in East Texas and has performed over 500 TAVR's, along with a very busy mitral clip and aortic aneurysm repair practice. He is a medical faculty educator for TAVR and directs multiple national conferences.

Samir Germanwala, D.O., FACC, FSCAI, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist, born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is trained in internal medicine, general cardiology, and interventional cardiology, and performs numerous procedures in the cardiac and vascular fields. He obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Pittsburgh and completed medical school at Ohio University. He fulfilled his internal medicine, general cardiology, and interventional cardiology fellowships in Pittsburgh. Dr. Germanwala also specializes in treatment of patients with peripheral vascular disease, including those suffering from critical limb ischemia and chronic total occlusions. Dr. Germanwala was the first in East Texas to perform transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery and the only interventional cardiologist trained in this specialty. In addition, he is very involved in repairing abdominal aortic aneurysms and thoracic aortic aneurysms. Even with his busy practice, he remains very active in research trials, and recently has had papers and interviews published in the Journal of Invasive Cardiology and Endovascular Today.

Dr. Germanwala is very active in training cardiac and vascular colleagues. Each year, he conducts numerous peripheral and CTO courses at Longview Regional Medical Center, where physicians throughout the United States come for instruction in the use of various catheters and new technology. He is very involved in the release of new devices that are FDA approved, and creating treatment pathways with various industry leaders nationally and internationally. He is a medical faculty educator for TAVR and directs multiple national conferences. Dr. Germanwala has been practicing in Longview for over 20 years and is married to Gana Nadiga, M.D., who is an ophthalmologist. Together they have a daughter and a son.

Ronald Scott, M.D., is a board-certified interventional cardiologist. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center. Dr. Scott completed his residency at Duke University School of Medicine in interventional medicine and completed his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Dr. Scott’s expertise includes interventional cardiology, cardiac and peripheral artery evaluation and treatment, congestive heart failure treatment, managing left ventricular assist devices patients, pacemaker and defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization and nuclear cardiology.

Meet Dr. Jorge Massare, Regional Clinics' Electrophysiologist! ⁠

Jorge Massare, M.D., FHRS, FACC, graduated from medical school with honors in 1997. He completed his internal medicine training at Wayne State University in Detroit in 2004, where he received the “Intern of the Year” award. He continued his training in the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he finished his training in general cardiology in 2007 and cardiac pacing and electrophysiology (EP) in 2009. He was chief fellow of cardiology and EP.

Dr. Massare conducted groundbreaking research in cardiac arrhythmias in UT Southwestern that was declared to be of national interest. He was also the recipient of research grants on several occasions by the American Heart Association and the Heart Rhythm Society. He is certified by the American Board in each of those specialties. He has been a speaker on several national and international specialty meetings. He introduced the field of electrophysiology in Longview by setting up EP labs, training staff and handling the first cases in both local hospitals. He keeps an active outpatient and inpatient practice and specializes in the study of palpitations, fainting, arrhythmias (including SVT, Afib, VT), and cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator implantations and extractions.

Dr. Massare served as the chief of medicine at Longview Regional Medical Center in 2014 and is a member of the Institutional Review Board.

Meet Cinthia Acevedo, AGACNP, a member of our Regional Clinics Cardiology Team.

A Longview native and proud U.S. Navy veteran, Cinthia Acevedo, AGACNP, brings years of experience in the medical field with a strong focus on cardiology and critical care. She earned her RN from UT Tyler in 2018 and went on to serve patients on the cardiac floor, in the cath lab and in the ICU—all at Longview Regional Medical Center. Most recently, she completed her adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner degree at UTMB, expanding her scope to care for patients across outpatient, inpatient and critical care settings.
