One of the things that stood out during the hiring process was that each of these associates came with a clear “why” - a genuine passion for working in mental health and a deep commitment to supporting individuals during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. That purpose-driven mindset is exactly what helps us build a culture where patients feel valued, heard, and supported every step of the way.

Nanetta consistently goes above and beyond for our patients and our team. As a Lead Behavioral Health Technician, she sets the standard through her compassion, dedication, and commitment to providing exceptional care. She leads by example, always demonstrating what it means to be a true team player while helping create a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for those we serve.

Our CEO Vern loves bringing a little Louisiana flair to East Texas any chance he gets — and today was no exception! Since it’s Mardi Gras, we made sure our amazing staff got to celebrate with some traditional King Cake.

Pictured here are Vonni and Tiffany enjoying a sweet slice and helping us keep the Mardi Gras spirit alive right here in Longview!

As they say in Louisiana: “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” — which means “Let the good times roll!”

We had an incredible time at our Oceans Longview Chili Cook-Off!

Our team came together for a day full of fun, laughter, and some seriously good cooking. We had 7 different chili entries to sample — each with its own unique flavor — along with all the fixings to make every bowl just right. And to help balance out the spice, our very own nurse Erica Chittenden treated everyone to some amazing homemade cupcakes that were a huge hit!

We were also honored to have several wonderful community leaders and partners join us as guest judges for our People’s Choice voting. A special thank you to:

Our Community Liaison, Kia, doing what she does best — connecting people to care.

Kia recently presented at Hickory Treatment Center, a local 28-day substance use treatment program, where she shared how our co-occurring program supports individuals by treating both substance use challenges and the underlying mental health conditions that often accompany them.

Recovery does not stop after 28 days. Our outpatient programs provide an important continuum of care, giving individuals ongoing support as they transition back into daily life. Research continues to show that strong continuity in treatment helps improve long-term outcomes and creates lasting positive change.

Continuum of care is essential for individuals and families navigating mental health and substance use recovery, and we are proud to partner with community organizations to ensure no one has to walk that journey alone.

We are proud to see our Business Development Director, Sharron Fowler, out in the community representing Oceans Behavioral Hospital - Longview and advocating for the people we serve.

Sharron recently attended State Representative Cole Hefner’s event at the Mid America Flight Museum, where she had the opportunity to meet with Texas State Representative Cole Hefner and Texas Governor Greg Abbott. It was a great opportunity to connect with leaders who are committed to strengthening Texas communities and improving the lives of those we serve.

At Oceans, we believe that building strong relationships beyond our walls helps expand access to behavioral health services and strengthens partnerships across East Texas. Seeing leaders and healthcare advocates come together with a shared vision for supporting Texans is always inspiring.

Our Admissions Director, Phillip, spends countless hours advocating for patients, coordinating care, and helping families navigate what can often feel like overwhelming situations. While much of his work happens quietly behind the scenes, the impact he makes is felt every single day by the patients and families we serve.

One of the most unexpected (and funniest) moments from today’s Town Hall

We had representation from every department and all of our service lines — including outpatient — and as always, we mixed things up with some door prizes. Staff drew tickets from a bowl… totally random.

Every single inpatient therapist walked away with a prize. No other department. All inpatient therapy.

What are the odds?! That kind of luck still has us scratching our heads.

Huge congratulations to Tiffany’s team — Ashley, Desiree, Lindsey, and Vonni for drawing the winning tickets and heading home with some very cool door prizes. Well deserved, and clearly meant to be today!

We love moments like this that bring everyone together and remind us how special our teams really are. 👏

Desiree brings a strong passion for working with the older adult population, with a special focus on supporting patients living with dementia. She views therapy through a creative lens and often incorporates art into her therapeutic approach, helping patients express themselves in meaningful and engaging ways.

Outside of work, Desiree enjoys spending quality time with her two dogs, Skeeter and Whisper.
