Castor oil works a bit differently than most topical products. It’s not just sitting on the skin — it actually helps draw out and move lymph, support circulation, and soften tissues. It has a long history of use for cleansing and detoxifying support.
However, your chiropractor’s point isn’t totally wrong — here’s what’s happening:
🟣 During use:
When you apply castor oil (especially with essential oils or a pack), it encourages your body’s natural detox pathways — lymph flow, bowel movement, and circulation.
🟣 After use:
If you’re using a castor oil pack, especially on the abdomen or liver area, it’s a good idea to wipe away the excess oil with a warm, damp cloth when you’re done.
This isn’t because toxins are “sitting on the skin,” but simply to remove residue and let your pores breathe.
🟣 You don’t have to scrub it off.
Castor oil is deeply nourishing for the skin — so unless your skin feels sticky or coated, you can also leave a thin layer on overnight.
Just make sure you’re supporting detox internally too (hydration, fiber, regular bowel movements).
✨ Summary:
Castor oil helps the body move toxins out through normal elimination routes — they don’t “sit” on the skin.
If you’re using a pack → wipe off lightly.
If you’re using it topically (like on joints, belly, or legs) → you can leave it on.
Always stay hydrated and keep your bowels moving — that’s the real key to detox.
