As the holidays approach, many of us are gearing up to gather with family and friends! For some, this means taking on the exciting (but sometimes overwhelming) task of hosting. 🍽️

Whether you are hosting or attending, here are a few tips:
1. Turn down background noise
2. Use good lighting for lip reading
3. Speak clearly (don’t shout)
4. Encourage hearing aid use
5. Be patient & rephrase (not repeat) if needed 💬

If you notice someone in your family who is having a hard time following the conversation but can still hear everyone, let us know! We are happy to help before the next holiday gathering!

Are you a fan of wearing earbuds for hours on end? 🤔
If so, listen up, there's something important you need to know! 👂
Did you know that prolonged use of earbuds can increase your chances of developing wax buildup in your ear canals? 😱 Our ears are incredible self-cleaning systems, and earwax typically finds its way out of the ear canal on its own.
But here's the thing: if you're constantly wearing earbuds, it can disrupt this natural process!
Wearing earbuds all day can interfere with the natural migration of wax, leading to buildup in your earbuds and potentially in your ears, too. If you notice wax building up in your earbuds or experience any discomfort, it's time to have your ears checked for wax buildup.
Don't let wax get in the way of your hearing health! Give us a call today to schedule your ear check-up; your ears will thank you for it! 📞💙

Fall is here, which means cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice… and noisy leaf blowers! 🍂
Did you know these machines can reach up to 100 decibels? That’s loud enough to cause hearing damage.
Protect your ears by wearing earplugs or noise-reducing earmuffs when tackling yard work this season. Your hearing will thank you later! 👂✨

✨ What does Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) feel like? ✨
Imagine the world talking at 50 miles per hour, but your brain can only process it at 30. Conversations can sound jumbled, like a tape running too fast.
For many with APD, hearing isn’t the issue; our patients have normal hearing. It’s more so how the brain interprets speech.
APD can make everyday listening feel exhausting, especially for children in school. But with the right support and strategies, those with APD can thrive.

October is not only Audiology Awareness Month, it’s also recognized by the National Institutes of Health as National Protect Your Hearing Month!
As you probably know, exposure to loud sounds can cause permanent hearing damage in just a matter of minutes. However, a lot of my patients don’t know that moderately loud noise exposure for a long period of time can also cause just as much damage!
For example, environments as loud as a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner, if exposed over 8 hours per day, can cause hearing loss. These aren’t instantly damaging, but daily, extended exposure without hearing protection can cause permanent hearing loss over time, especially in kids, teens, and people working in noisy environments.
The good news: protecting your ears doesn’t have to be complicated. Simple steps like wearing earplugs when using power tools, mowing the lawn, or attending a concert can go a long way in preserving your hearing!

As audiologists, we spend a lot of time studying the connection between hearing and the brain. While research is still ongoing, we do know this: the more we hear, the more our brains stay engaged. The more we stay engaged, the more we participate in conversations, connect with loved ones, and stay active in our daily lives.
We also see the emotional side of hearing loss every day, the way people start to pull back, skip social gatherings, or feel exhausted from trying to keep up with conversations. It's not just about missing sounds; it's about missing moments.
If you’ve been feeling more isolated or noticing that conversations are harder to follow, please know you’re not alone, and it’s not something you just have to live with. Getting your hearing checked is a simple first step toward staying connected and confident.
We’re here to support your hearing and your well-being, because they go hand in hand. 💗

Feeling dizzy or off-balance lately? You don’t have to just “live with it.”

Balance issues can happen for a variety of reasons, and they can seriously impact your daily life. Many people with vestibular disorders find themselves avoiding activities they once enjoyed, and some even stop driving altogether. That kind of disruption can take a real toll on your confidence and independence.
The good news? There are ways to get answers and support. Just give us a call, and we can let you know what your first steps should be!
We’re here to help you find your footing… literally!

“Can you say that again?”
If you’ve found yourself asking this more often lately, you’re not alone. I frequently have grandparents comment that it’s hard to understand their grandchildren.
High-pitched voices, like those of children, can be especially difficult to hear clearly, especially when soft consonants like “s,” “f,” or “th” start to fade into the background.
In many cases, hearing changes happen gradually over time, and it’s easy not to notice until those special little voices become harder to understand.

Think hearing loss only comes with age? Think again.
Many people are surprised to learn that uncontrolled high blood pressure, not just aging, may have an impact on your hearing. Yep, hypertension doesn’t just affect your heart or brain; it may also damage the delicate hearing organs in your inner ear. Over time, reduced blood flow and oxygen to the ear can lead to noticeable changes in hearing.
If you're managing high blood pressure and have started saying "What?" more often than you'd like, don’t brush it off. Your ears might be telling you something important.
And don’t forget to talk to your primary care doctor about keeping that blood pressure in check.
