The Center of Life Counseling - Anxiety, Depression & Trauma Therapist Choosing to work with a counselor can be one of the most difficult-yet rewarding-decisions you will

Starting or returning to therapy can be one of the most difficult, yet positive and rewarding decisions you make in your life. In therapy I strive to offer a safe space to gain increased self-awareness and to examine what may have you feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Through the process of therapy, you can shift your current way of doing things, change life-patterns and overcome barriers that keep getting in your way. It takes courage to begin therapy, but once you make the decision, it will likely enhance your sense of self, your relationships, and your quality of life. I offer individual, couples, and group counseling, and work with a wide range of issues and concerns. I specialize and have particular interest in working with physical and emotional abandonment, relationship concerns, life transitions, depression, anxiety reduction and social phobia, self-esteem, women's issues, career concerns, multicultural concerns, grief and loss, and trauma recovery.

We are born hard-wired for love and connection and to bond with one another.

Feeling love for someone sometimes becomes confusing, unsafe and complicated.

Safely using Opposite Action to Love may be a helpful coping skill.

***Safety***

If you are considering leaving an abusive or life-threatening relationship, call a local domestic violence center hotline or the toll-free National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) for help with safety planning and a referral to a qualified professional. With so many warnings, updates, check-ins, discussions about upcoming stressful events, our minds can become wired for anxiousness and before you know it everything has become associated with an anxious state and it's difficult to relax.

Schedule time for it.

Create space away from it and protect your self emotionally and mentally.

Create an emotional script if you need to such as the one below. This will allow for your to know when feelings and emotions are based on facts or feelings. Identify the specific cues you want to feel an emotion for and until you see or hear that cue do self-soothing, emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills.

We are now running multiple weekly DBT Skills groups virtually!

Our groups are open and running groups and will run continuously for the next 6 months.

We have overhauled our referral processes and sign ups in an effort to stream line coordination of care and decrease the time it takes for individuals to actively join our groups.

We also have overhauled our phone system and have created a direct provider line for referral coordination purposes.

We will now provide weekly updates to individual primary clinicians after each group.

Our DBT skills group is not meant to replace the individual therapy currently being provided. Dialectical behavioral therapy was designed to be a clinical team approach that was meant to include both individual and group skills training concurrently.
