🌸 Spring is here! And with the warmer weather comes a good reminder about Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection that dogs can be exposed to more easily this time of year.
Leptospirosis is spread through contaminated water, soil, or urine from infected animals, and the truth is — any dog can be at risk, no matter their age, breed, or lifestyle. Even dogs that don’t spend a lot of time outdoors can still be exposed.
Risk can increase if your dog:
• Drinks from puddles, ponds, lakes, or slow-moving water
• Spends time on rural property or around wildlife
• Has contact with rodents, farm animals, or backyard critters
• Visits dog parks, boarding facilities, training classes, or other places with dogs
Because this disease can be serious (and can also spread to people), prevention is very important. The good news is that there is a safe and effective vaccine that helps protect your dog.
