For 40 years, the Lorain County Free Clinic has been a lifeline for members of our community who lack access to health care. What began during the economic downturn of the early 1980s as a temporary solution has grown into a vital resource for thousands of local residents.

Thanks to the dedication of volunteer physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and supporters, the clinic continues to provide compassionate care — from primary care and specialty services to medications, vision care, and nutrition counseling.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are grateful to everyone who has helped make this mission possible. Together, we continue bridging the gap to quality health care in Lorain County.

Early Free Clinic Pharmacy Pioneer: Charles Settle, RPh

From 1987 to 2011, the late Charles “Chuck” Settle, RPh was a familiar and caring presence at the Lorain County Free Clinic. Chuck volunteered his time during clinics, helping distribute medications to patients and supporting physicians by managing the clinic’s pharmacy inventory.

For many years, Chuck also served the Lorain community as a pharmacist at Discount Drug Mart.

Chuck’s dedication and kindness left a lasting impact on the clinic and the patients he served. We remember him with gratitude and honor his volunteer legacy on the anniversary of his passing in 2012.

💙 March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable cancers when detected early, yet many people delay screenings because they feel fine or think they’re too young.

Regular screening can find precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer—and when colorectal cancer is caught early, it’s highly treatable.

✔ Recommended screening now begins at age 45 for most adults
✔ Talk to your doctor about the screening option that’s right for you
✔ Know the signs: changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss

Taking care of your health today could save your life tomorrow.
This month, wear blue, spread awareness, and encourage someone you love to get screened. 💙
