On Friday, October 31st, we had the pleasure of hosting 17 local high school teachers of biology, anatomy, and chemistry. These teachers spent Friday on SFU campus in a "Science in Focus: Refreshing Anatomy and STEM teaching in High School" session. It was a free session sponsored by the Nason Foundation. Check out some pictures of our local, learning teachers and the cool gift bags they received thanks to the Nason Foundation!

๐Ÿ”ฌHigh School students from Northern Cambria, Windber, and Portage Area High Schools got the chance to participate in a Health, Wellness, and Disability High School Visit Day, here on Saint Francis University Campus. Students, for 2.5 hours, rotated between five stations concerning health, wellness, and disability, specifically learning more about our PT, PA, Nursing, OT, and Public Health departments while seeing what Saint Francis has to offer. The students also learned about the rest of the programs that we offer here at SFU. What an awesome group of students and an experience for them!

๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to a special member of our faculty, Dr. Nikki Davis who recently earned her PhD in Translational Health Sciences from George Washington University. Here, she focused on bridging the gap between research and real-world healthcare practice. Translational health research transforms scientific discoveries into practical solutions that improve individual and population health through evidence-based interventions, clinical practices, and policies. Through a three-phase national study, Dr. Davis and her research team developed implementation strategies to integrate physical therapy services into emergency departments (EDs) across the United States. This innovative approach has been shown to reduce opioid prescriptions, unnecessary imaging, and hospital admissions/readmissions, while improving patient outcomes in the ED. Dr. Davis is board-certified in geriatric physical therapy and recently achieved board certification in cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy. She looks forward to expanding her research agenda in the emergency department and cardiopulmonary physical therapy. This is an awesome achievement, congratulations!
