This is an MRI of the lumbar spine, the first picture depicts, the vertebrae, if you peel the vertebrae away, you have,
SPINAL CANAL:
✔ Spinal cord ends at ~L1–L2
This is called the conus medullaris (cone-shaped ending of the spinal cord).
✔ Below the conus → Cauda Equina
The cauda equina is a bundle of nerve roots (L2–S5) inside the lumbar canal.
So the sequence is:
Spinal cord
Conus medullaris (end of spinal cord)
Cauda equina (nerve roots floating in cerebrospinal fluid)
