✨BALANCE REMINDER✨

For a while I felt like balance was “everything in moderation” and while this is still a good philosophy and can hold to be true, life is a bit more complicated and challenging than that. Moderation, in many cases, can be a healthy goal. However, I does not account for the REALITY that is life… especially when everything is chaos and balance seems so unattainable. 🤪

But what if I told you that BALANCE is more about FEELING AND ACTING no matter how aligned or chaotic you feel. To get to those highest happiest of feelings, we first must truly feel the s**tty and uncomfortable ones so that we can then TAKE ACTION to heighten our energy and our mental/spiritual/physical state.

Learning Balance is not about staying in a tiny window of moderation but LEARNING about how to navigate the highs and lows so that when they occur… because they will… we won’t stay in the lows so long and can feel what is needed to GROW! Because in a life of pure happiness there is no desire for growth. And let’s be real the goal of pure happiness is just a joke 😜.

The ebbs and flows can occur moment to moment, day to day, month to month or even year to year. SIT WITH YOUR DISCOMFORT and truly feel what YOU NEED to create the vibration you seek! Pizza? Go for it! A walk? DO IT! Friends? Give them a call! A bubble bath? Fill it up!

LISTEN AND TAKE ACTION! EMBRACE IT ALL! 💜

❤️🎄It’s the most wonderful time of the year❄️💚

These faces and these memories are what make this time of year so magical and so special! I hope you all had a MERRY CHRISTMAS and are soaking up family and making fun memories amidst the chaos…. Its been so important for us to take a break from unpacking and cleaning to get in these precious moments together 🙏🏼 It can be a very stressful time of year (especially during a move😜) and it’s important to remember the reason for the season 🥰 we are getting settled and loving being up here in Los Alamos where I was fortunate to grow up and am SO HAPPY my kids get to grow up in this magical little town 🙏🏼

I am still on holiday break but am slowly starting to transition everything with The Balanced Momtality up to Los Alamos and I have some AMAZING new things in store for my patients in 2022 🤗

New Years is coming up BUT TODAY IS AS GOOD OF A DAY AS ANY TO START MAKING TIME FOR SOMETHING YOU LOVE!

✨The Foot Bones Connected to the Pelvic Bones✨

Here at The Balanced Momtality I am ALL about WHOLE BODY health in every aspect (mental, physical, spiritual and head-to-toe, inside and out etc)… so while I specialize in Pelvic Health, I also love treating any and all other orthopedic conditions! But even when someone comes in with a “pelvic problem”, I look at the ENTIRE system… including the feet 🦶🏼 because EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED and did you know…

🤔Our feet play a huge role in our pelvic health! They are our connection to the ground and control a lot of our we move around and navigate our day to day. They function to absorb shock and create stability as we propel forward. And based on their alignment, strength and control they either help stabilize and engage the pelvis or when the feet are not creating the stability or shock absorption necessary, they can cause those forces to go up to the pelvis and/or can hold the pelvis in a posture that inhibits the pelvic muscles, causing strain on joints and ligaments. 😳

So while most times I find issues in the feet with pelvic issues like pelvic pain or incontinence…I also find pelvic issues when I am treating someone for foot pain like plantar fasciitis.

🤷🏼‍♀️Which came first… the foot issue or the pelvic issue? In many cases it’s a chicken or the egg situation… in other cases we can problem solve it out. Either way, you want to address both! There are also many neurological connections between the feet and pelvic floor so…

🦶🏼One of my first tips for foot health is to WAKE UP YOUR 🦶🏼

In our culture shoe 👟 wear is required.. but most shoes 👠 are narrow and stiff which jams your joints together (later creating bunions… yup 100% avoidable❗️) and also turns off the intrinsic muscles in the feet to help absorb shock and support‼️

🦶🏼Go barefoot as it’s comfortable and start FEELING the ground and realigning your joints using toe spreaders like these from ( not an ad) or lace a towel/pillow case.

But don’t be afraid of this ghost… it’s friendly 😬 Except for one week of every month 😜 🩸 My love for women’s health overflowed into my pumpkin carving this year 😬

Any day is a good to celebrate the SUPERHUMAN POWERS we have as women!! 🦸🏼‍♀️

Taking a role in this Pelvic Floor world has been a learning/growing journey for me as I break down my own barriers and taboos. I want pelvic health not to be taboo so people can seek help and not be afraid… thus I post on ALL things pelvic and yet with some posts I still feel that sense of cultural shame when I talk about s3x or v@gin@s… I mean s**t I can’t even spell the words normally or IG deletes the post because our culture has made it SUCH A TABOO! and then I feel shame for even ever feeling shame… but NO MORE SHAME!! It’s normal to feel uncomfortable as we rewrite what we feel is important and necessary… EVEN if it goes against the cultural grain.

So for myself and for my patients… I will preach about v@gin@s, uteruses, s3x, l**e, and all things pelvic health and other health as long as it’s going to help educate and inform and empower other women/people so they can better know their bodies and how to stay healthy and strong!! 💪🏼 NO MATTER HOW EMBARRASSING IT MIGHT FEEL 💪🏼

I have broken down so many of my own barriers by stepping into this role… but my work is far from over… so next time you feel too embarrassed to ask a question or mention something to me or another pelvic health provider… just know WE are also working on our own journey to accept and love our entire being and being open about talking about what ALL that means. We’re human too… but NOTHING is TMI in a visit with me 😉

✨LOS ALAMOS ✨

Born and raised in Los Alamos, NM and left for college in Albuquerque 12 yrs ago, where I have been ever since. I have grown to love Albuquerque and it has become home, having met the love of my life and created our sweet little family here and my business baby TBM. ABQ Is where my PT journey began.

However, we are ready for our next chapter… a chapter where our kids can ride bikes in the neighborhood without worry of being kidnapped (only worry is now mountain lions and bears 😳), where our kids can get a private school-quality education for free, and where the grandparents are just up the street 🙏🏼

I actually loved growing up in Los Alamos and I’m excited to have my kids get the small town childhood I got to have. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about moving back to my hometown, especially now as an adult and with my own small business… but I also know that this move is going to be GREAT for all of us… I’m mostly excited to have more support, because if there is anything this last year and a half has taught me is I NEED IT! I need it to be a better mom, wife, business owner, and human being!

So this December we’re packing up and moving up north back to good ol’ Los. 😬😳🤪

🔅What does this mean for ABQ?!🔅
I am STILL treating patients in ABQ through both telehealth AND will be doing monthly/bimonthly visits down here starting in January and I am scheduling normally until the holidays.

🔅What does this mean for Los Alamos?!🔅
It means that I will be physically up there full time, offering IN PERSON hands-on physical therapy for all pregnant/postpartum mommas and women at any stage of life!!

Im excited to get re-integrated into the sweet little community of Los Alamos and see what it has in store for The Balanced Momtality and for my family ☺️

If you’re in the ABQ area it’s not too late to get in person visits in before the end of the year!

There is SO much more I wish I knee and SO much more I can say about each of these BUT these were my biggest wake up calls that made my next pregnancies a night and day experience from my first.

✨Deep Squattin’ All Day Err Day✨

But really though… are you taking advantage of a deep squat when it’s play time? Or laundry time? Or floor pick up time?

The Deep Squat is FABULOUS for:
🏋🏼‍♀️Maintaining back/hip/knee/ankle mobility
🌺Pelvic Floor Release/Relaxation
💥Reducing low back/pelvic pain
🤰🏼Opening the Pelvic Girdle to prepare for birth
🔆and MUCH MORE!

This position should be comfortable and easy to sit and relax into. As soon as you feel your body tensing or holding or hovering… it’s lost it’s benefit! Our culture puts us in chairs in almost every situation and we tend lose the mobility in our joints that make this posture possible.. so many people find this position uncomfortable.

Tips for Deep Squat beginners:
•use yoga blocks, pillows, cushions to add support where needed in order to relax and find comfort
•start with 30sec to a minute, getting out of this position can be the harder part especially if you sit here for 5 minutes your first time. You may find you can’t feel your legs 😜
•Wherever you feel restriction and tightness in this position… WORK ON IT! So this position, and others, will be more comfortable.
•Try it in various situations, doing various things. This is my favorite play position… get some bubble time and mobility work/low back relief in at the same time. Yay!

So next time you need to sit or bend over or find yourself standing still, sit down into a deep squat. Your joints, low back and pelvic floor will thank you!

✨The Balanced Momtality ✨

It sounds like “mentality” for a reason.

Back when I named TBM I wanted something that captured the concept of Whole Body Balance…INSIDE & OUT. I wanted other Mommas to know that despite the chaos of motherhood, balance is possible…. Physically & mentally. And it looks different for everyone.

❕What I didn’t realize at the time, was that the year to come would challenge my sense of balance & what that meant/looked like WAY deeper than I could have ever anticipated & would make me rethink & understand what The Balanced Momtality really means❕

While I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy & I help treat/prevent physical impairments & help people live & love life without pain or p*eing themselves… the THERAPY part… the mental part has always been one of my favorites. I love connecting with other people, especially women & other moms. Hearing their stories, fears, traumas, dreams & helping them find that sense of peace, confidence & “balanced mentality” has always been my favorite. Ya it’s awesome you’re not p*eing yourself anymore… but what’s even more awesome is the confidence & happiness that those women experience! ☺️When they come in crying tears of joy telling me they were able to laugh & play with their kids without p*eing, or that they were able to enjoy an intimate night with their partner without pain for the first time in years & they feel hope for their relationship again. 🙏🏼 THOSE are the goals/wins I crave!

Personally I have (almost) always felt like a happy, balanced person. But I lost myself in a pandemic home all day with 3 kids. I finally just didn’t realize who I was anymore or what I even like/didn’t like. It comes with parenting, but I was also already a people pleaser. So it’s been a journey to relearn/unlearn myself. If you don’t know what you like than you can’t refill your cup. Find what brings you joy & do it as often as you can!

STOP LISTENING TO THE FEAR & SELF DOUBT that you can’t because YOU CAN!

FEEL IT & DO IT!

Everything else…attitude, drive, relationships, fall into place when your happy & LIVING

You can’t do self care if you aren’t in tune to what YOURSELF needs!
