CBD in Acne Research: Breaking Barriers

These two peer-reviewed studies are just a few that highlight the therapeutic potential of CBD in addressing one of the most prevalent skin conditions worldwide: acne.

1️⃣ Olah, A., et al. (2014) – Cannabidiol exerts sebostatic and anti-inflammatory effects on human sebocytes (The Journal of Clinical Investigation).
2️⃣ Blaskovich, M., et al. – The antimicrobial potential of cannabidiol (Communications Biology).

Despite the stigma that remains, we remain steadfast in our belief that CBD may one day be a standard of care, reversing long-standing dogmas in aesthetics and dermatology.

That said, clinical results over the last 5 years on the safety and effectiveness of CBD—especially in our patent-pending procedure combining CBD with microneedling—have been truly astounding.

We started HealMD over five years ago now to help patients improve their experience around their procedures as naturally and optimally as possible. Our Sleep tincture instantly became a patient favorite. Its formulation was derived from peer-reviewed research and we haven’t had to change it once- clinically effective and proven.

When our cortisol is high during stressful times, it can inversely bring our own melatonin levels down. This is why supplementing with CBD to reduce cortisol is a game changer around procedures. This is also the time to take a non-habit forming dose of melatonin to enhance your sleep and recovery.

Sublingual is our preferred method to take our Sleep tincture. One full dropper under the tongue provides 25mg of CBD and 3mg melatonin. Hold for 15-20 seconds before swallowing. Patients can opt to double the dose but avoid doing this for more than 30 consecutive days.

If you really want to enhance the cortisol reduction properties and even tap into some pain relief, combine this with our Stress & Pain tincture for a higher dose of CBD. Just avoid taking more than 1500mg in one day.

We love using CBD for its quick and effective onset to lower stress around procedures. This typically requires an acute dose of 200-400mg. While there are multiple methods of use, we prefer our sublingual tincture because it is fast-acting (15-30 minutes) whereas capsules or edibles have a slower onset (45-90 minutes). Sublingual products provide a more accurate dose as digestion can reduce the overall amount of product you are hoping to take.

Although our acute dosage is high, it is only for those times you really need some relief. Most people can find these ranges to be effective:

1. Low Dose: 5-15mg for gentle relaxation, focus, and mild calming effects.
2. Moderate Dose: 15-30mg for deeper relaxation, stress relief, and body-mind calm, ideal for meditation.
3. High Dose- 30-50mg or more for intense relaxation. Use only if you’re experience with CBD and want profound physical stillness, or prescribed by your physician / aesthetic injector.

Recommended Dose for Meditation:

Start with 15-25 mg of CBD if you’re looking to relax into meditative state but still remain present and focused. If you already have experience with CBD and know you tolerate higher doses well, you can try 25-30 mg for a deeper sense of calm.

Take your CBD 30-60 minutes before starting your meditation or procedure to allow it to take full effect. Combine with rituals for optimal effects such as setting the tone by dimming the lights, lighting candles, or using aromatherapy. Focus on slow, intentional breathing as the CBD begins to take effect.
