for what it’s worth, I had horrible insomnia for 10 years..I also had CPTSD

I tried everything (melotonin, white noise, baths, acuptunture, meditation, cutting caffeine, limiting screen time, sleep hygiene routines, herbal tea, reading)

and nothing helped me...

until I started doing tiny, lazy movements to release the stress out of my body in bed right before I fell asleep for like 3 minutes

somatic flashbacks are intense, involuntary re-experiencing of past trauma through physical sensations rather than visual memories 👇🏼

they often occur when you have PTSD, CPTSD, or pre-verbal trauma

and you’ve done some healing work to the point that you feel much safer now…

even though they seem overwhelming or scary, they’re actually a sign that your window of tolerance has expanded

and you feel safe enough to process trauma that your brain previously couldn’t process because it was too overwhelming at the time

personally, I started having somatic flashbacks of my CSA in my 30s (even though the trauma occurred when I was 8-11 years old)

my first instinct was to think that I was making it up, because I didn’t want to believe that trauma had happened…

but in working with my therapist and my somatic mentor, I realized flashbacks (regardless of whether they’re verbal or physical) are very real..

you literally can’t make them up

if you’re going through this right now, know that it’s a sign of healing (and I get that it’s A LOT)

the tremendous overlap between CPTSD and neurodivergence is shocking, and we need to be talking about it more👇🏼

I was initially diagnosed with CPTSD in 2020...and in 2024 my therapist mentioned that I was no longer displaying the symptoms of CPTSD anymore

they asked me if I’d be interested in being tested for ADHD and autism due to my sensory issues and tendency to be overstimulated

in 2025 my tests came back and we realized I’m also neurodivergent...

over the last year, I’ve been reading and studying the overlap between CPTSD and neurodivergence and I’m realizing that this is much more common and frequent that most people realize

for me, having the tools to regulate my nervous system has given me my life back...

it’s what has allowed me to live a life where my symptoms aren’t preventing me from living a good life

before regulating my nervous system regularly, I felt stuck, overstimulated, overwhelmed and anxious all the time
