Building on our last post, here are additional ways to support your nervous system and mental health.

Gentle, repeated practices can help your body shift out of survival mode and create a greater sense of safety over time. This is not about doing everything. It is about finding one or two strategies that feel right for you and returning to them consistently.

You might try slow stretching, placing a hand over your heart and noticing your breath, orienting to your space by naming where you are, or stepping outside for fresh air and natural light. Even brief moments of connection with your body can help regulate your stress response and support emotional wellbeing.

Go at your own pace. Your healing does not have to be rushed.

Your nervous system is always working to protect you. After trauma or ongoing stress, it can stay in survival mode even when you are no longer in danger.

These simple, trauma-informed practices can help your body begin to feel safe again and support your mental health. With consistency, even small moments of regulation can ease anxiety, improve focus, and help you feel more present and in control.

Move at your own pace. Take what feels supportive and leave what does not. Your body knows what it needs.

Survivors’ voices matter. And they are finally being heard.

Los Angeles County is conducting a brief, anonymous survey to better understand the needs and experiences of individuals who have experienced sexual assault.

This is an opportunity for survivors to share their perspectives in a way that is private, confidential, and entirely on their terms.

The insights gathered will help guide meaningful improvements in how systems respond and how services support survivors across our community.

No identifying information is collected. Your voice remains your own.

If this feels right for you, you are invited to participate by scanning the QR code.

And if not, that is okay too. Support is always available, and your healing comes first.

Please consider sharing this with someone who may want to be heard.

Healing To You stands with survivors.

Let’s be clear.
Too many survivors are kept from care because of misinformation.

You have the right to make your own decisions after a sexual assault. No one takes that from you.

You choose whether to get medical care.
You choose whether evidence is collected.
You choose whether to report.
You choose who is with you.

In California, you can receive a sexual assault forensic exam, medical care, and advocacy free of charge without reporting to law enforcement.

Care is not something you have to earn.
Support is not something you have to justify.

You deserve access to care that respects your voice, your choices, and your healing.

There are people ready to support you. You are not alone.

Healing To You stands with survivors and is committed to expanding access to trauma-informed, survivor-centered care in our communities.

Save this. Share this. Challenge the myths.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, you are not alone. What happened is not your fault.

After an assault, it can be hard to know what to do. There is no right way to respond. You get to move at your own pace and make the choices that feel right for you.

If you are able, consider getting to a safe place and seeking medical care as soon as possible. Care can support your health and, if you choose, help preserve evidence. Some substances leave the body quickly, so early care can matter.

If possible, avoid showering or changing clothes before a medical exam. If you do change, placing clothing in a paper or unsealed bag can help.

You do not have to report right away or at all. You have options.

You can reach out to someone you trust or a sexual assault hotline. Advocates are there to support you, not tell you what to do.

Healing To You stands with survivors. Care and support should be on your terms.

If you feel unsafe, call or text 988 or go to a safe place.

Save or share this to support someone who may need it.

As we move through Strangulation Awareness Month, it is important to highlight the dangers of sexual choking (strangulation). Although it is often framed as “normal” or “expected,” it carries serious risks.
Even brief pressure to the neck can cause hidden internal injuries, neurological damage, loss of consciousness, or life-threatening complications that may show up hours or days later.

If you or someone you know has had pressure applied to their neck, whether by someone else or self-inflicted, please seek help. You can reach out to a trusted friend, a healthcare provider, or support services to get the care you need.
By speaking openly and sharing resources, we help protect one another. 💜
