Join this Sunday’s community class to explore the hips. This all levels practice will open the hips, support increased mobility as well as stability. Stability is also one of the philosophical foundations of yoga. As the Sage Patañjali writes, Sthira Sukham Āsanam: yoga poses should be practiced with stability and contentment. In Sanskrit, the word Ojas is understood as “the life sap” and represents the essence of what we perceive through the five senses, forming the foundation of our immunity and overall health.

The immune system defends us from invaders by removing germs, allergens, and foreign objects. A strong immune system also helps maintain our overall physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Our yoga practice strengthens the body, cleanses bodily fluids, and eliminates waste, promoting mental and spiritual well-being. Ayurveda enhances our health through lifestyle modifications, dietary adjustments, herbs, and other holistic practices, promoting harmony and well-being.

Join Jeff for this class, where he will share how nature influences our physical and mental well-being, and introduce you to holistic practices that boost your immunity and overall health. We will practice a yoga sequence that helps eliminate toxins and enhance our immunity, strength, and wellness, while also fostering groundedness and stability.

All levels welcome. Our Sunday community class is open to all as part of our ongoing efforts to keep Iyengar yoga accessible to everyone. Your generous donation goes a long way towards supporting these efforts.

Through a thoughtful progression of standing, seated, and supported asanas, we will create space and ease where tightness or strain may limit movement. Whether Padmasana is part of your current practice or a long-term aspiration, this class will help you understand the steps that lead toward it—cultivating steadiness and clarity along the way.

The Sage Patañjali, in the Yoga Sutras wrote: Heyam Duhkham Anāgatam हेयं दुःखमनागतम्॥१६॥

BKS Iyengar translates this as “the pain which is yet to come can and should be avoided.” Yoga practice is meant to help with health and well-being. So, while a general yoga practice is beneficial for overall, we will practice a sequence specifically for supporting the immune system.

“By the practice of pratyahara, he wins freedom from attachment and emancipation from desire and becomes content and tranquil.” B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Yoga.

Inspired by Pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), the fifth of Patañjali’s eight limbs of yoga, and considered a bridge from the outer to the inner quest, we will explore how, in our asana practice, we can draw our attention inward and away from the constant sensory input from the outside world. By drawing our senses of perception inwardly, we are able to experience the silence and quietness of the mind.

This class is open to all levels and will be taught in both English and Spanish.
