I used to feel so much guilt anytime I stepped away from home… travel, work, anything that wasn’t “hands-on” parenting. Most of that guilt came from the stories I absorbed about what a “good mom” is supposed to be.
Here’s what I’ve learned: stepping away doesn’t take me from my son. It brings me back to him.
Travel gives me perspective.
It reconnects me to the parts of myself that get buried under routine and responsibility.
It brings more ease into my relationship—more desire, more presence.
And it gives my son room to build trust, independence, and connection with the people who love him too.
I come home more regulated, more grounded, and more able to show up as the mother he actually needs… and as a better human in every other role I hold.
Have you ever felt guilty stepping away, even when it’s exactly what lets you return better?
