Word-finding strategies in action!

Watch as my patient, Mike, uses his word-finding strategies to help him talk about his brother who was a “coast guard.”

Notice how he uses 1) writing and 2) meaningful associations (“navy…army…coast guard”) as his most accessible strategies.

Mike has aphasia, which is an acquired language disorder affecting talking, listening, reading and writing, to various degrees.

In therapy, patients and I focus on what strategies are most helpful to them in contexts that are salient and fun!
