🌺THANK YOU FAMILIA!!🌺

We have reached the end of our Farewell Season, and we could not be more grateful for the outpour of support you showed us!

In the last 6 weeks we:⠀
* held 6 beautiful dance classes/events⠀
* had 680+ total registrations from around the world⠀
* made over $3,000 in donations!⠀

There have been many hard things happening in our lives and in the world in this time, and your choice to show up in our space is not one we take for granted. ⠀

We are proud to say that ALL proceeds from this season are going directly to our artists and teachers-- women and femmes of color at the forefront of their artistic and healing practices.⠀

We‘d like to give special thanks to:⠀
* our Founder, for her inspiring vision and leadership⠀
* for their valued partnership from the very beginning⠀
* for their consistent support of our work⠀
* [Tag Vera, Rosangela and Kati], our Guest Teachers from this season, for their healing dance offerings⠀
* our fellow Collective Members, for their powerful co-leadership & sisterhood⠀
* and last but not least... YOU! For everything.  ⠀

While Dancing Diaspora has come to an end, we know that our movement lives on.⠀
Our community lives on.  ⠀
And our shared love of dance as radical joy lives on. ⠀

Keep following our artists below! ⠀

See you on the dancefloor...
With love siempre,

💛 Portraits + Playlist 💛⠀

・・・
Thursday nights will always hold a special place in my heart...⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Driving through rush hour traffic, walking up the rickety wooden steps of Pieter Space, and waiting for folks to walk through the doors, always half-convinced that no one would show up... ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Only to find myself a couple hrs later in scenes like these. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Soaked in sweat.⠀⠀⠀⠀
Surrounded by beautiful brave movement. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Mesmerized by a sea of people pouring themselves onto the dancefloor—unapologetically, imperfectly, and majestically. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨✨✨⠀⠀

By popular demand, here’s one last offering querides! ⠀

I’ve consolidated some of our most favorite songs from DD class throughout the years and am sharing them in...⠀

🔥 THE Dancing Diaspora Playlist 🔥⠀
👉🏼 See link in bio!! 👈🏼⠀

And let these beautiful portraits of our community and collective members fill you with sweet memories as you groove and get down...⠀

Nos vemos on the dancefloor, SEMPRE! ⠀

🌟 ISIS AVALOS 🌟

We’re spotlighting our DDC Members and the incredible work they do in the world so we can all follow and stay connected to all their community offerings.🌎 ⠀
⠀⠀
🌴This we acknowledge the beautiful poderosa, DDC Member Isis Avalos !

“I am a Mother, multi-faceted Artist and Bordercrosser. My roots are dug deep between Mexico and the South Tejas Borderland. My journey of doing anti-racist work has led me to look inwardly inside my own Mexican Culture and the (US) Dance field. I am constantly living in a flow of investigating the ways my own decolonizing journey has been/is embodied. I feel as though is an everyday conversation with the memory that my body has stored and how movement has become the language in which I communicate and heal my past generations.”

🌴She is currently a brand Ambassador for Los Angeles

🌴You can find Isis' past writing focused on Anti-racist thought inside the Dance Community at .co.

🌴Follow to stay up to date with all of her community movement / activism offerings!

🤩 TODAY 🤩

Who’s ready to learn a liberating classic Marina Dancing Diaspora phrase!?

We are thrilled to host our very own Dancing Diaspora Founder, Mestra Marina Magalhães for her last DD class! 🌺

will share for one last time (yes, we’re in all the feels too) her signature Dancing Diaspora class, which she began in 2017 and was the seed that sparked our beloved Dancing Diaspora platform. 🌺

Rooted in Afro-Latin movements and rhythms, Marina’s class embraces the play between rigor and instinct, tradition and creativity, and ancestry and individuality that is at the heart of diasporic experience.

Get ready to sweat, play, and celebrate our bodies in this DD class one more time!✨💕🎉

note from :

“Riding winds of change 🌬✨✨✨

After 4 beautiful years of leading , I will be teaching my final DD class this Thursday. ⠀

Doing so over Zoom, without the magic of our beloved sweaty gatherings, is certainly a bittersweet experience. But, as I have learned from my elders, dance has the power to cut through space and time unlike anything else. ⠀

And when winds of change come rushing in, what better thing to do than dance? ⠀

Also... don't worry!! This is by NO MEANS the end of me as a dance teacher 😅⠀

Part of the choice to end the Dancing Diaspora platform was to create space for DD Collective Members to pursue our own independent projects. ⠀

I am currently working on one particular project I am deeply excited about, and look forward to sharing more about it soon... 👀⠀
👉🏼see link in bio to sign up for my mailing list and stay in the know!

See you on the (virtual) dancefloor queridxs 💛”
