🔸CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) focuses on identifying maladaptive thoughts to adjust your perspective of the world. 🔸ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgement. 🔸ERP (exposure and response prevention) therapy is a type of CBT that helps people learn to cope with their obsessive thoughts through gradual exposure.

What is Dementia?

A neuropsychological evaluation can reliabily differentiate between dementia and other conditions that may appear as dementia on the surface, such as mild cognitive impairment or the functional impairments seen in depression.

When a patient comes in for an assessment, I think about not only how this assessment can help the patient, but also how it can help their family. ☀️

The cognitive concerns and deficits a patient experiences certainly affects the patient, but it also affects their children, spouse, parents, and social network. When I take on a patient, I look at that individual as a part of a whole. That person comes with a community who has helped shape them into the person they are today.

What's on your bookshelf?

Anybody find themselves looking 👀 at their colleagues'/friends'/boss' bookshelves during zoom calls?

Every bookshelf is different and unique. They can also tell us a lot about who we are, what we do, and what our interests are.

A peak into my bookshelf:

🧠 Brain books for all things neuro

🧸 Children's books for my young clients

🤓 Strategies on improving clinical practice

🧘🏻 Mindfulness practices

One of the largest and most complex organs in the human body.

✔️ The seat of intelligence

✔️ The interpreter of the senses

✔️ Initiator of body movement

✔️ Controller of behavior

All the parts of the brain work together to help humans grow, learn, and process their experiences, but each part has its own special properties.

When the brain suffers damage, those special properties may be compromised, resulting in difficulties with thinking, attention, language, memory, or planning!

A neuropsychological assessment will determine which cognitive functions are compromised and preserved.

You will receive specific steps to take to ☀️ improve your quality of life ☀️ at home, school, or anywhere else you might need it.

“Alice in Wonderland” syndrome describes a set of symptoms associated with perceptual distortion.

These symptoms are not due to an optical problem or hallucinations. They are caused by changes in a portion of the brain that processes perception of the environment. 🧠

The most prominent symptom of this syndrome is an altered body image. For instance, people may perceive their head and hands much larger than they are.
