Always remember: Your family history is history—the kind textbooks left out.

Learning about your family history means understanding history from a people perspective.

Don’t forgot food!! Community and churches haven been known to publish cookbook, and tour ancestor may have contributed. Look for places near where your ancestors lived and check local libraries and genealogy centers for copies of recipe books. Also don’t forget to check eBay!!

If you find one your get to pinpoint where your ancestors was at a certain time and you get to try their delicious (hopefully) recipe.

The family historian’s holiday wishlist is HERE!

Genealogy Standards - Because arguing about citation formats at Thanksgiving dinner is a love language 💕 (This is THE manual for doing genealogy research the right way - your ancestors deserve proper documentation!)

A to Zax - The alphabet book that goes harder than it needs to, teaching kids about genealogy terms from A to Z. Warning: may cause tiny humans to start asking about probate records

Everyday Life in Early America - Ever wondered what your 1700s ancestors actually did all day? Spoiler: it wasn’t scrolling TikTok. This deep dive into colonial daily life will make you grateful for washing machines and also deeply respect your hardy forebears.

Perfect for the family member who:

👉Has 47 browser tabs open about the 1850 census
👉Knows more dead relatives than living ones
👉Gets genuinely excited about finding a ship manifest
👉Uses “allegedly” before every family story

Who’s getting these wrapped up under the tree?

Interviewing people is one of the best ways to capture and preserve your family’s history. Our relative may not like it, so bring them candy and gifts. Present those first and go from there. 🥳🎄

Today’s genealogy question is: Can AI / ChatGPT help me find historical records or useful databases for my ancestors? (Or help me find my ancestors?)

The quick answer is yes, but it cannot pull documents. Instead it can help you get organized and figure out where to look.

But! Always double check your everything!! AI can be wrong and I’d like to make things up.

Supporting local and small businesses doesn’t always mean spending money. One of the best ways to help is to share their posts on social media. One little like. One little share. It does a long way. Thank you and happy holidays!
