"Birthmom Buddies is dedicated to empowering birth mothers, with a special emphasis on Native American mothers, post-adoption. We champion the holistic well-being of these brave women by providing emotional, financial, and advocacy support, ensuring they are equipped to thrive after the profound decision of adoption."
Our mission
In today's evolving social landscape, birth mothers, particularly those of Native American descent, often find themselves caught in a system that applauds their brave choice but leaves them emotionally and financially unsupported post-adoption.
The very essence of adoption is a testament to the selfless love and unparalleled courage of birth mothers. Yet, a glaring disparity exists. While adoptive families rightly receive resources and counseling, birth mothers face the aftermath of their choice often isolated, unsupported, and financially strained. They navigate the tumultuous waters of postpartum emotions, combined with the profound grief of separation, mostly alone.
Recent data reveals that a staggering 73% of birth mothers would have preferred to raise their child. Still, due to circumstances beyond their control—whether financial, familial, or health-related—they make the heart-wrenching decision to place their child for adoption. It begs the question: In a system where care is extended to the child and the adoptive family, why are birth mothers, the very nexus of this process, left behind?
Furthermore, as a Native American birth mother, the founder of Birthmom Buddies witnessed firsthand the alarming disconnect and lack of tribe, state, and federal support for women in her position. The profound cultural and historical significance of family and lineage within Native American communities makes the need for specialized support even more crucial.
Birthmom Buddies seeks to bridge this gap. We envision a world where every birth mother, regardless of her background, is enveloped with the resources, care, and support she deserves. A world where her sacrifice is not just acknowledged but honored through tangible measures.
We aim to provide:
- Emotional support through counseling and peer programs.
- Financial assistance to ensure stability in housing, food, and essential needs.
- Advocacy to institute national policies that recognize the unique challenges faced by birth mothers.
