🚨 Do you know how to relieve Foreign-Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in a choking Adult? 😱💔
💡Did you know If someone is choking and can’t speak, cough, or breathe, it’s crucial to act quickly. Here’s what you need to do:
* Verify scene safety
* Check for signs of severe FBAO
* Weak or absence of cough
* Unable to speak
* Change in color (cyanosis)
* Altered mental status
* Apnea
* Absent
* Present
* Encourage cough
* Continue to check for signs of severe FBAO
* Activate emergency response system
* Start repeated cycles of
* 5 back blows, followed by
* 5 abdominal thrusts
* Repeat until object is expelled or the adult becomes unresponsive
* If object is expelled, continue to monitor until advanced care arrives
* Is the adult responsive?
* Yes
* No
* Start CPR until advanced care arrives; refer to adult BLS algorithm.
* Start with compressions.
* Check for visible object in mouth before giving breaths.
* *For patients in the late stages of pregnancy, or when the person is unable to encircle the patient’s abdomen, chest thrusts should be used instead.
