We are incredibly fortunate at Silverado Beverly Place to have such a robust and intentional Music Therapy program led by our Director of Music Therapy, Zachary Sipos Arakelian, MPA, MT-BC, NMT, alongside his dedicated team of interns.
Music therapy plays a vital role in dementia care. Research shows that it can help reduce anxiety and agitation, improve mood, support communication, and even stimulate long-term memories when other forms of expression become difficult. Rhythm, melody, and familiar songs tap into preserved areas of the brain—often allowing residents to engage, sing, move, and connect in ways that feel natural and meaningful.
The video below was during our monthly Jam Session last month, a little different from our daily music therapy groups, but the vibes are always the same: joyful, energizing, and full of movement, smiles, and dancing.
Our Jam Session reminds us why music therapy is so powerful: it’s not just about the music, it’s about connection, dignity, joy, and quality of life. And we are so grateful to witness that magic every day at Silverado Beverly Place.f
