Since relocating from Baltimore five years ago, the Nigerian-born producer Collins Oboh has been blessing Los Angeles and beyond with a modular magic all his own. Sometimes that means delicate, searching reveries. Elsewhere, waves of synth meet kinetic, clattering drum machine, warm vocals, or live instrumentation. Colloboh’s practice in L.A. started in the orbit of , expanding in recent years to include scoring for film, touring globally, and organizing multidisciplinary, ensemble performances at architectural landmarks like the Getty Center and the Hollyhock House. We’ll welcome Collins back to Reflections this week — a sweet reunion for us, since he opened one of our earliest shows, alongside the legendary Suzanne Ciani.

𝘏𝘖𝘞 𝘋𝘌𝘌𝘗 𝘐𝘚 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘖𝘊𝘌𝘈𝘕? ~ We’re honored to announce two very special Reflections events with Alexis Taylor (), co-founder and singer for beloved UK electronic group Hot Chip.

Across both nights, Alexis will share an intimate set of songcraft and electronic atmospheres, spotlighting his love for adventurous sound and pure emotion. This comes on the eve of the release of Paris In The Spring, his new solo LP, recorded with Air’s Nicolas Godin. We’ll pair Alexis with a projection-mapped light show, transforming these historic churches — and ourselves — in a state of reverential beauty.

Welcome to 💿 Reflections w/ Steve Hauschildt: Playlist 021 💿

For his official playlist, the Tbilisi-via-Chicago synthesist conjures space with a set that ripples out across geography and time. Lush textures drift in from far-flung sources: Italian minimalism, Japanese environmental, Egyptian pop, ‘80s musique concrète. Rounding things out are two sprawling landscapes: a desert meditation from Steve Roach and “Amongst Automata,” the cinematic closer of Hauschildt’s latest LP, Aeropsia.

𝘓𝘖𝘚 𝘈𝘕𝘎𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘚 〰 Honored to announce that Steve Roach () will join Reflections for a very special night at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Saturday, June 6.

In the landscape of ambient music, Steve Roach stands alone. For decades, he’s conjured countless landscapes — real and imagined — through sound, creating a bridge between early New Age aesthetics and Jon Hassell’s Fourth World mystical exploration. Albums like 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛 𝗜𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗 (w/ Suso Sáiz and Jorge Reyes) and 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡 firmly establish Steve as a visionary Fourth World architect.

For this event, he’ll lead us on a 2-hour deep dive into dreamtime and beyond. We’ll immerse him in a canopy of light, projection mapped to the contours of this historic K-Town church.

𝘚𝘌𝘕𝘛𝘐𝘌𝘕𝘛 𝘉𝘓𝘖𝘖𝘔 ~ As we get ready to host Visible Cloaks () in Portland and Seattle this weekend, what an honor it is to help introduce “Disque,” the shimmering lead single from their new LP on , Paradessence.

“Our approach to making music as Visible Cloaks has always been more ‘bottom up’ than ‘top down,”” says Spencer Doran. “I never have a specific vision of a completed song which we’re trying to enact as faithfully as possible in the studio, it is more setting up various conditions in which ideas emerge. I conceptualize pieces like ‘Disque’ with this kind of vision in mind, creating a series of unfolding abstractions from an initial source using various stochastic techniques we have developed over the years of our musical practice.”

Visible Cloaks join us Friday and Saturdays to debut music from Paradessence live in quadraphonic sound & immersive light, with support from Omari Jazz and Saloli.

𝘞𝘐𝘓𝘋 𝘊𝘖𝘔𝘔𝘜𝘕𝘐𝘖𝘕 ~ Saloli () joins Reflections in Seattle next Saturday, 2/21, opening for Visible Cloaks (). Architectural splendor, light in motion, full quadraphonic sound.

With just a Sequential Circuits MultiTrak synth and a delay pedal, Saloli’s Canyon LP (on Kranky Records) conjures the consciousness of a bear, imagining and rendering its everyday encounters with the environment into prismatic sound.

“In Cherokee teachings,” explains, “humans and animals are considered to have no essential difference – originally, all the creatures of the earth lived together in harmony.” Canyon is a vessel for that idea, both contemplative and playful. Like Beverly Glenn-Copeland or Hiroshi Yoshimura, Saloli pulls deep resonance out of deceptively simple compositions, drawing from her indigenous heritage to offer a vision of communion with the natural world.
