Painted Brain creates lasting, community-based solutions to mental health challenges and the impact of social injustice through arts, advocacy, and enterprise.

Painted Brain is an innovative peer-run mental health arts and tech organization that uses a peer model focused on recovery. Painted Brain defines a peer employee as any person with lived mental health challenges and or trauma including but not limited to: social injustice, interpersonal violence, societal exclusion. Painted Brain considers all of its’s employees as peers, where there is no separation from community members to clinicians to executives; all identify with having mental health challenges.

Painted Brain Co-founder and Executive Director Rayshell Chamber is urging organizations, hospitals, businesses, and community members to pay attention to the Medi-Cal and community organization cuts and understand how these reductions will significantly impact people with mental health needs. With limited government support, it’s up to us to work together to keep community organizations thriving. Painted Brain’s programs provide low-barrier services, emotional support, and community care that mental hospitals are not able to offer.
