Parenting did not exist as a concept until the 1970’s. Since then parenting as an activity of adults who have children has gotten more and more intense. Why is that? It’s because of economics. Today’s children are less likely to surpass their parents than in earlier generations. This article explains the pressures parents feel to try and ensure that their child gets ahead of the pack. Too much screen time is harmful because it overstimulates the brain's reward system, in much the same way as drugs do.
