My friends know: I love to lift!
10 years ago I walked into looking to let off some steam and those badass coaches taught a 45 year old how to start lifting weights.
When people give you a gift, say Thank You!
And since yesterday was World Menopause Day, this is a gratitude post to those first coaches, to the general CrossFit community, to my workout buds, to my bestie who bought that beautiful barbell for my 50th bday, to my hub who bravely joins in on the fun, to my clients who put up with my endless stories of workouts and missed box jumps, to friends who loaned me weights when I couldn’t buy any … did I mention some awesome trainers who didn’t laugh when I fell completely backward the first time I tried a power sn**ch with an empty barbell????
It truly takes a village and I love to see the community women are building around our amazing, changing bodies and our hormone / life cycles.
We don’t start a period and stop periods … we experience peaks, valleys and changes all along the way. Genetics & epigenetics are both at play so no one of us is exactly like the other.
But there are things we can know and one of the things I certainly know: weight lifting (or cross training, CrossFit, resistance training) is AWESOME for your bones, your circulation, your muscles, your confidence, your balance … and even your skin!
We gotta start moving, keep moving and enjoy lifting some sh*t!!!
Some great people/joints to follow for more info:
PS: I’m wearing the lifting mouthguard and I LOVE it. Highly recommend if you’re a grit & bear it gal like me :)
See ya at the bar(bell)!!!!
