Today marks 10 years since Kyle’s traumatic brain injury (TBI). 🧠🥳

🗣️ Happy New Life to you buddy!

I am so thrilled and blessed to share in your journey.

Ten years of healing.

Ten years of transformation.

Ten years of defying the odds one day at a time,

And tomorrow, we celebrate seven years of neuro fitness training together — seven years of learning and teaching, breaking limits, and chasing greatness, together. .

I’ve watched Kyle become the man he was always meant to be.

Determined.

Focused.

Purpose-driven.

What a gift it’s been to witness his evolution — not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
�To work with him, his incredible mom, his children, his Nana, and his entire family — has been a blessing and an honor.

I love this quote by Picasso:

“The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”�
My sentiments exactly.

If your child struggles with focus, restlessness, or dysregulation before therapy — this post is for you.

🗣️ Whether it’s cerebral palsy, autism, or another neurological condition, how we begin a session changes everything. 😌

👉🏼 After years of training both children and adults with neurodiverse needs and neuro recovery goals, I’ve learned this simple truth:

👉 The nervous system must feel safe before the body can respond.

🥇 Here are 3 powerful tools I use every session with my client, Super Jude — who lives with cerebral palsy:

🔵 1. Begin with Breath Work
�We start every session with what I call Balance Blue — three deep, intentional breaths.
�This slows the heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and activates the parasympathetic nervous
system — the part of the brain that says:�
“I’m safe. I can focus. I’m ready to grow.”

🔵 2. Use Visual Anchoring (Yes, Even Balloons!)
�Before we begin breathwork, we draw a face on a balloon.
�It becomes a playful focal point — grounding attention and activating neuromotor pathways.
�Visual cues like this help bring the mind into the present moment and prep the brain for learning.

🔵 3. Make It Routine
�Consistency wires the brain.
�Every session begins the same: same breathwork, same order.
�Routine builds predictability, and predictability builds safety — the foundation of all neuroplastic change. 🧠

It’s only been four months, but Jude’s transformation is undeniable. 🦸🏻
�Every breath we take in therapy is designed to reprogram the nervous system — and it all starts with attention, focus, and breath.

We also sprinkle breath work throughout the session — in between the fun, the physical, the breakthroughs.

✨ Training with Jude has been a true highlight of my career, and I’m deeply grateful to walk this journey with parents like Dr. Matthew and Vicky. 🫶

December marks 10 years since Kyle’s traumatic brain injury. 🧠🥳
�And this week, we celebrate 7 years of training together. 💃🏻💪🏼

🗣️ From our first session — Kyle handing me the ball with his left hand — to our most recent session — Kyle walking independently on an incline on the HitMill Treadmill Machine for 5 minutes and 40 seconds without stopping.�
👀 This is what the neuro recovery journey can look like.

👉🏼 Walking has always been the goal.
�And we’ve never wavered from that vision. 🏅

Through the Harkins Method™ — built to retrain the mind, brain, and body — Kyle has reduced spasticity, minimized seizure and aura activity, improved his speech, balance, and cognitive function, and lost over 60 pounds.

And while we’ve kept our eyes on the prize (walking), we also trained to restore identity, autonomy, and confidence.

HOW FITNESS CHANGED THE TRAJECTORY OF MY TBI RECOVERY

🗣️ Most people know me as the creator of The Harkins Method™ and founder of Neuro State of Mind™ and now, The Harkins Project, VRx™, … but before ANY of that?

I was an 18-year-old girl from Rowlett, Texas living alone in El Segundo, CA who had just survived her first severe traumatic brain injury.

📸 Picture 1 — Age 18 (First time EVER to share my TBI photos publicly)

Wearing a neck brace, smiling after flat-lining, waking from a coma, and overcoming temporary quadriplegia + a bruised spinal cord.

It was the very beginning of my TBI journey — the one that would test me, shape me, and reveal who I would become.

After doing one single push-up in my tiny studio apartment, I decided I would still try to become a firefighter + EMT… my childhood dream.

After all, I had been given another chance at life.

I started working out when my body felt broken, my identity was shaken, and my doctors told me:

“This is as good as it gets.”

The pain was physical… but the internal battle was worse.

The overwhelm overwhelming thoughts, and emotions of “What if…?”

I hit a point where I realized I could surrender to the diagnosis — or fight for my future.

So I chose to fight.

After all, it takes courage to heal.

And in our weakest moments, we discover just how powerful and strong we truly are.

And I wasn’t alone — God was with me.

Fitness became the catalyst of my healing — the foundation that changed the trajectory of my recovery.

Not because I wanted to “get in shape,” but because movement gave me proof that healing was still possible.

I relearned to walk while relearning to speak.

Then I ran.

Then I lifted.

I rebuilt my atrophied muscles and worked two jobs to afford a trainer who helped me rebuild from the ground up.

But the REAL transformation didn’t happen until I did two things right:

1️⃣ I trained my mind with the same intensity as my body.

2️⃣ I learned how to activate neuroplasticity on purpose — training my mind + brain as a team.

That’s when everything changed.

My mission is to implant hope for every TBI, ABI, concussion, and stroke survivor — and anyone navigating anxiety, depression, or PTSD — who refuses to give up.
